Gore is my absolute favorite album of Deftones. Just perfect. I connect with it so much. Prayers/Triangles is straight eargasmic and Rubicon is also amazing. 100/10 album overall

Easily their worst post-Chi album, but it's nowhere near as bad as some Deftones fans claim it to be.

I like how we got flying flamingos because Chino just thought they were neat: "“They’re in flight,” Moreno says, enthusiastically. “You usually see them standing on one foot, but in flight is something I’ve always wanted to see. The colour palette of flamingos is very intriguing.”

yeah, ive always loved this album cover, has this strange almost ominous tone to it that a picture thats a closeup of flamingos in flight with big capital letters in then middle stating "GORE" can only ever accomplish. its so strangely specific that you cant help and wonder what the music within sounds like. ive always loved that about this album

It took me a long time to come around to this one because it felt like such a departure from the style they'd used on Diamond Eyes and Koi no Yokan, but there are some really great cuts on here.

I love this album very much but don't blame the Deftones fans who don't like it, because it's missing the groove and danceability that defines most Deftones. I feel like this album was all about texture and trance and less about rocking bodies. To me it's the best Deftones record to blank out into a thousand-yard-gaze to. The textures and melodies are so beautiful, but it's not the one I put on to rock out and headbang to.

I find myself forcing to listen to that whole album. And it never really happened previously with other albums by them. Maybe it's production, maybe something else. Some tracks are really great but the whole album didn't grow on me yet..

it took 4 years for me to finally get into this album, so maybe it would happen to you as well at some point

Wait... hold on a tick... some folks don't even LIKE this album??? Man... that's your own personal beef you're bringing to the mix. This might not be their most inventive, bold, aggressive, dreamy, or whatever album... but it's not bad. In fact, it's sublime. This is killer shit, so zip it!

It seems every Deftones release divides fans. That's another reason why I love this band, different every time.

because it sounded to me like a completely different person. as much as i like them, i'm still not 100% familiar with their discography. the ones i really really know are around the fur, white pony and diamond eyes. the rest i gave a few listenings here and there but i'm still not there yet.

just found out that the song i was listening to this whole time wasn't even deftones', that's why i thought i was listening to completely different from usual deftones and chino's singing. the song was violence and destruction by a band called islander. someone mixed things up when they uploaded the album i downloaded.

The first Deftones album I've heard in whole. Took a few listens, but I adore it now!

I didn't like it at first either. First time I heard it (after already being a Deftones fan and hearing all their albums) I was like wtf is this noise. Boring crap. After some relistens though, it has become my favourite. Funny how that works.

It's been the hardest Deftones album for me to get into (though I love them all.) I do think that this one gets a lot better after Acid Hologram drags it down early.

This album just wont hit me. I know Deftones albums need a few listens to really click, but its just dont happening for 2 years. There are some really nice parts, but in songs not as a whole song. Probably my least favorite deftones album yet.

Listening to this one for the first time in at least a year and it's really grown on me. The mixing/mastering does leave a lot to be desired, as a few others have said, but from a purely musical standpoint I think this one mostly succeeds. It's certainly not bouncing Saturday Night Wrist, Koi No Yokan or White Pony out of my Deftones top 3 but it's one I'll happily spin on occasion going forward.

I would agree with pretty much all you've said here -- ATF is definitely right there. The self-titled has a few of my favorite songs from the band but overall I thought it was a bit of a step back from White Pony -- almost like maybe they let the idea that that album wasn't "heavy enough" scare them into trying to make a self-consciously heavy album at times; but "When Girls Telephone Boys," "Battleaxe," "Needles & Pins" and a couple others on there are real killers. Total agreement about Diamond Eyes... I see lots of fans talking about how it's among their best, how it was a rebound (huh? After Saturday Night Wrist, which fucking rules? No way), etc. I've never understood it and almost never listen to that record. And yeah, usually now when I listen to Deftones I'm looking for that lush, heavily layered sort of MBV/Shoegaze/Dream Pop-meets-Metal thing they've had going since White Pony, not (admittedly good) raw Alt-Metal/Rap Metal.

It might have something to do with the way Diamond Eyes was a transitional album - first album post-Chi's accident as well as first album to feature 8-strings. I guess by the time of KNY they had kind of figured out how to make better use of those two elements. Either way, one of the things I really like about Deftones is that they just keep pushing their sound forward, or they did for a long time. No two Deftones albums have the same tone, mood, aesthetic, while all remaining distinctly *Deftones*. I'm not that interested in a band that just makes the same album over and over, and I like that I actually feel a reason to listen to each of their albums depending on the incidence.
