Everyone discusses whether the best era of Genesis was with Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins when it is obvious that it was with Steve Hackett

Just saw Steve again this week for the 2nd time, truly one of the most underrated musicians of his era

Everything from Trespass through Duke is prog perfection. The core of 70's genius. And Duke was composed and recorded in 79, though released in 80, so essentially is a 70's piece of art too.

Steve Hackett \m/ very thankful he's keeping their 70s material alive and well on stage

I'm not a Collins hater by any means, but it's a bit sad that the first track from the Gabriel era is only ranked at number 19. Happy to see it's Firth of Fifth tho. Such an epic track <3

Happy 47 years to the Wind and Wuthering LP! The last Studio LP before the famous Trio era and the last with Guitarist Steve Hackett. Also with it's recording occurring in Hilvarenbeek in the Netherlands the first Genesis LP to be recorded outside the UK! Overall a Great LP

Happy 49 years to The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway! One of my favourite Prog LPs and Rock Operas! Sadly Genesis last with Peter Gabriel, but what a way for him to bow out with the group. Listening to it rn on one of my many listens of this masterpiece.

There is so much to love from both of them as vocalists. They where like the perfect vocalist for 2 contrasting styles (well first 2 studio LPs with the quartet where still very much mark 1 style). They where both legendary vocalists and They also had really strong solo careers. It's undoubtable I prefer Both Peter as the Genesis vocalist and Solo but I appreciate Phil's Era to. And Ray Wilson is underrated but a clear step down in quality from the other two that is undeniable.

The rhythm pattern that opens the song wouldn’t be too far off from something on Peter's 4th record particularly, which had come out the year before. Theres a good Mike + The Mechanics track with that same kind of glitchy rhythm, Nobody's Perfect.

Ok guys so dunno bout yall but There is lambswool under my naked feet The wool is soft and warm Gives off some kind of heat A salamander scurries into flame to be destroyed Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid The fleas cling to the golden fleece Hoping they'll find peace Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid There's no hiding in memory There's no room to avoid The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor For my second sight of people, they've more lifeblood than before They're moving in time to a heavy wooden door Where the needle's eye is winking, closing on the poor The carpet crawlers heed their callers: "We've got to get in to get out We've got to get in to get out We've got to get in to get out" There's only one direction in the faces that I see It's upward to the ceiling, where the chamber's said to be Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they're free The carpet crawl

The Archive box sets are back on streaming services in North America. The second one hits a sweet spot with a lot of awesome b sides and live tracks of the deeper cuts from the Phil years. The first one is of course incredible on its own for having the earliest recordings, but mostly of course for the live material (infamously fixed up later with new Gabriel vocals and Hackett replacing some of his solos), from the classic Genesis prog repertoire.

All of my life I've been a fan, Of a man with a voice like an angel's, Phil Collins, the name that I trust, His music, a symphony that never rusts. Tonight tonight, I hear his call, His songs, they lift me when I fall, They take me to places beyond my mind, And leave me in a world, so kind. But when the night fades and the stars grow dim, I'm alone again, with just his voice within, And though I may be physically alone, His music stays with me, and I am home. So here's to Phil, the master of sound, Whose music echoes all around, All of my life, I'll be his fan, And I'll keep on singing, with this legend.

Самый перемудрёный британский прог который только можно представить.Гэбриел с его костюмами конечно тащил,но Коллиз, со своим перепрофилированием в Bee Gees, позволил им продержаться в 80х,но и убил их тем же.

A Trick Of The Tail is indeed very underrated! including in my playing same with Trespass, going to be gving them many more spins this yeae though I am sure. I actually find Trespass & Nursery Cryme have become 2 of my favourite of theirs though I really enjoy all LPs from Trespass - Wind & Wuthering a lot + Duke. From Genesis To Revelation has some weird production though quite strong. All other LPs are gold/very good though inconsistent and have weaker moments I find. Also Calling All Stations is overhated, I actually find it a very enjoyable listen one of the better post-Duke LPs imo with S/T probably in terms of consitency.

growing up with the 80´s Pop Stuff, discovering later the 70´s Prog Albums, I still like both sides of Genesis

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums
