Don't get what's so special about that "barely audible intro" for it to be mentioned everytime, almost as if a defining characteristic of a song.

lastfm users try not to say "best song of all time" on some obscure 10-30 minute long snoozefest challenge day 1

I just happened upon this comment shoutbox again, so i will clarify I love every song on Spiderland and my comment was just a joke. Washer is, yeah, the second best track on the album.

There is no, and I mean absolutely no song on earth that more accurately and *painfully* captures that exact middle ground between empty apathy and overwhelming emotional collapse. The line between feeling nothing and too much is maybe worse than both, and this song reflects the hopelessness found there to such a degree that, had I written it, I don't think I'd ever be able to perform it without breaking down. It's one of the most haunting pieces of music I've ever heard. Perfect song.

The dynamics on this... feel like its emulating a depraved mental state, or at least some sort of unstable one. And that riff... it's haunting and terrifying, yet comforting at the same time. This might be one of the few examples of perfect songwriting. Everything is methodically and meticulously composed and positioned.
