this tag needs to be used way more, instead of calling everything post-hardcore.

I agree with Welvismark. Post-hardcore and metalcore are different genres. Post-hardcore is a lot more rock (usually) than metalcore is. While they both are melodic, I do think heaviness is a major difference between the two. I wouldn't call a post-hardcore band like A Day to Remember or Dance Gavin Dance to be similar to a band like and say it's in the same genre as Parkway Drive and War of Ages.

@Issan, that's pretty much what I'm basically getting at and also that A Day to Remember is still not post-hardcore. I personally take the tags around here with a grain of salt, and I keep stuff accurate on my PC for the sake of congruity, accessibility, and general interest. :)

The tag "alt metalcore" is sometimes used for bands that keep getting mislabeled as post-hardcore

Hey I started a new group for music fanatics, the focus is going to be different than the ExMF and the frosty paradigm. It's a bit of an experiment but if a bunch of people get in it could be cool. Join if you are interested. I want this group to become a center for music discussion on Lastfm (even though it's metal centered, other genres are more than welcome to be discussed.) Cheers! http://www.last.fm/group/Unholy+Cult+of+the+Appraised+and+Damned

V Some of the top ones shouldn't be up there in fairness. Melodic metalcore is basically just melodic death metal with hardcore influence. Bands like Killswitch Engage, early BFMV (Poison-era I mean), All That Remains, IKTPQ, Shadows Fall. That sort of stuff. Some people use the tag to literally just mean metalcore bands that are more melodic but the real genre is much more specific than that.

These bands are all just regular Metalcore bands. Nothing exceptionally melodic about them.

v your right. Though i am not sure what to classify Asking Alexandria and newer ATR. Bands like Unearth, AILD, KSE, Shadows Fall, ect.. fall under the melodic metalcore tag.

Isn't this just the other half of metalcore? There's metalcore like Earth Crisis, Hatebreed, Converge, Terror that aren't exactly melodic, then bands like Unearth, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch engage? Or does this refer to the emo metalcore bands like Asking Alexandria, All That Remains (newer albums anyway)?

both side of the spectrum are metalcore.... there's melodic metalcore and oldschool metalcore also known as 90s metalcore or metallic hardcore... both can be called metalcore... Born from Pain sounds completely different as Killswitch engage, but both bands their music are built on the same principle; to fuse hardcore and metal together into a solid package...

v as ToxicGriever mentioned; metalcore: Converge, Integrity, Shai Hulud, Starkweather, Earth Crisis. melodic metalcore: As I Lay Dying, Unearth, Trivium, Darkest Hour. Mostly all modern metalcore is melodic, which has melodeath influences. If your hearing melodeath in a metalcore band, that's melodic metalcore.

"to me aild is quintessential metalcore." listen to [album artist=At The Gates]Terminal Spirit Disease[/album] and pretty much anything after that from [artist]At The Gates[/artist] then listen to AILD, there are some melodic references, not sure of the melodic death although some bands like AILD claim to be influenced by melodeath and i hear some of the melodic side of melodeath. "Converge is metalcore? Uhh, no." Well what would you call Convege then?

And im not saying your wrong either that AILD, ATR, ect.... aren't metalcore.. i just know that some of the bands use melodeath as an influence.

Anyway i see more of a profound difference between Metalcore & Melodic Metalcore & Melodeath I find that melodic metalcore still sounds like metalcore just with some melodeath mixed in.

Eh well according to RYM AILD, ATR, KsE, & even Unearth are all Melodic Metalcore. Blood Stain Child to me doesn't sound anything like metalcore to me, but their most recent releases are mostly driven by trance, to me tho they sound like melodeath, I haven't listened much to Dead by April so i can't say for sure but they didn't really sound metalcorish to me and i haven't heard anything by Crossfaith (i will have to listen to them). I think most of the melodic metalcore bands are highly influenced by At The Gates if i remember correctly.

AILD, ATR and KsE are just regular Metalcore. I'd say bands like Dead by April, Crossfaith and the later material by Blood Stain Child fit more as Melodic Metalcore...

People don't know how to tag genres. Most of these bands are not even melodic metalcore. AILD, ATR & KSE should be the top bands in this genre.

Isn't it fun how only like two of the top bands actually fit the "melodic" part of the tag? If even that.

It saddens me that what people emphasises on are genre legitimacy and not musical quality.
