Boy band is a name applied to some pop music groups in the 90s. Such a band usually consisted of 4 or 5 young men (early 20s or even teens) in which all the members performed as singers and dancers and the choreography was a vital part of videos and live shows. Boy bands usually recorded fast dance songs and romantic ballads appealing to young female audiences. The forerunners of the boy band style were New Kids on the Block and Take That and it was later popularised by groups such as Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Boyzone and Westlife.
