D-Beat is a subgenre of Hardcore Punk and Anarcho Punk that is characterized by having a constant, fast, incessant and heavy drum beat with the rest of the instruments keeping up with it through "simple" chord changes, also making use of a raw and unpolished sound giving it a more "DIY" or "Do It Yourself" feel.
It gets its name thanks to the band Discharge (the D is the initial of the band and "Beat" refers to the drum beat) as this was the first to perform this heavy and aggressive style influenced by the Hardcore Punk and Anarcho Punk bands of the time; it was with their legendary first album Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing that this genre was started. The album and the D-Beat itself became as important for Punk as for Metal; specifically Trash Metal was greatly influenced by this album, to the point that several important bands for the genre such as Metallica or Anthrax made covers of Discharge songs, such as Free Speech for the Dumb or Protest and Survive.
This genre developed together with UK82, although the latter was not as long-lived as D-Beat; because of this some influences of D-Beat can be noticed in UK82 and vice versa.
