Punk 77 refers to 1977 as being the year that Punk as a music genre had a sudden spike in relative popularity, especially in the U.K. It is sometimes referred to as "the year punk exploded". The Punk 77 moniker is often used to make a differentiation from other styles and subgenres of Punk, but especially other eras.
