The thing with last.fm is the tags are created entirely from user actions as I understand it. This is web2.0 democracy at its best. This means categories arise organically, not based on what some individual has decided. The usages of certain words, such as 'twee', changes over time as does the genre. This is due to the development of language and music. The first twee bands in the 80s, like Talulah Gosh, were much punkier than their modern successors such as B&S.

maybe there should be a sub-genre of 'wrongly tagged as twee'... 'could quite easily be mistaken for twee'.

What elhnz0 said. And besides the apparent misuse, how is this tag helpful to anyone ever? It's not as though it will prevent these bands from coming up in the twee tag, or radio, or whatever. How about you start tagging bands with more specific and appropriate tags if you want to differentiate them from whatever your notion of twee is. That doesn't contribute to branding any more than "wrongly tagged as twee" does anyway. This tag creates the impression that these bands are somehow not worth listening to, if you have true twee cred. Needless negativity, bros.

You are right...for some reason I've always had "On Tape" as a C86 song in my library. But I see now that isn't so. They should have been, though. Made a liar out of me.

Most of those bands are twee as fuck. Pooh Sticks were on C86..Henry's Dress...come on. Settle down with the negativity.

Thanks for noticing! We are pacifists by nature, but appreciate being appreciated instead of dismissed! <bR> "Ice Cream Shop" was supposed to be over the top, tongue in cheek, but then it damned us to Twee-dom! Thusly, many who many who don't like "twee", but may actually like us were turned off and didn't check us out.

I love it! I've had a right ol' laugh at the artists you two have been TAG TEAMING up against with the new tag. I dig it.
