Sigh, unfortunately Foos cancelled their gig. Apparently Dave's been told by doctors to rest his voice. On the same week The Dillinger Escape Plan cancelled their gig too. Bad bad week. But oh well, shit happens. Yeah the Oscars and Grammys are pretty ridiculous, although I would say I hold relatively higher regard for the Oscars than the Grammys. Oooh that sounds interesting, will check them out. Thanks!

Hey no worries man! YES! So stoked for Foos, they'll be playing in a weeks time!! Hmm...mine would definitely be How I Got Over, haven't checked out Undun though. I'll probably buy it soon. Hmm.. well I caught Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy recently. It's good, although I thought it got a bit draggy during the middle part of the film. Gary Oldman did a great job though, he deserves the Oscar nomination. I hope he wins too. BTW, I see that The Horrors are in your library. I caught them live at this festival called Laneway along with other acts like Feist, M83, Laura Marling and Girls. They did a great set, but the sound sucked.

Yeah man! I still can't believe it, but I can't wait! March 2nd! Yeah I think I need to give Nirvana and Soundgarden some full listens. The Roots RULE! What's your favourite album by them?

Well, that's a tricky question, because I like a number of bands that were popular during the grunge era, but it's disputed whether they're actually considered true 'grunge. If it's bands from that era who got mixed into the grunge loop, then it's definitely The Smashing Pumpkins (duh haha), Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots. I have yet to delve into Soundgarden's and Nirvana's discographies but someday I just might, especially for Soundgarden! You?

Yeah agree with you about Other Lives. I'm perplexed that it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. I've actually listened to Sea Change once. Liked it, but for some reason I've never gotten back to it. Maybe I should, thanks for the heads up!

It has New Age and folk influences in it, very cool. You'd be surprised it's by the same guy who has made some of the most angriest (see: Strapping Young Lad) and danceable (see: Addicted by DTP) metal ever. I just realised I described all the albums but there you go hahaha. I think there are more albums, I might just add the new Feist and Girls albums, great stuff. Anna Calvi's debut is fantastic too, I forgot about that one. I'm thinking about the debuts of The Log.Os and Shabazz Palaces too. OH YES. You absolutely MUST MUST MUST check out this band called Other Lives. Their newest album is a masterwork. I just listened to it recently. Not gonna hype it up more, but let's say it's the lovechild of Yann Tiersen, Arcade Fire, Radiohead and The National. Does that water your mouth? Haha. Merry Christmas btw! Hope all has been well for you!

No worries man, unfortunately nope, I have not seen the Foos live. I must see them though, come hell or high water. Dave Grohl's been a role model for me. Hmmm well not a lot of it is metal actually! Haha. Let's see...definitely check out The Dear Hunter. Amazing music, although I suggest you listen to the Act albums, but it's not necessary. If you like bands such as Glassjaw or At the Drive-In, definitely check La Dispute and Letlive. You might like Protest the Hero. Think of them as a very youthful and joyful version of Dream Theater. Touche Amore is melodic hardcore, so check it out if you're in the mood. Toro Y Moi and Thundercat made EXCELLENT albums, the ones I mentioned. Very chill funk/jazz/pop music. (I need to work on my music classification haha, but you get my drift, hopefully). Death Grips is very dark hip-hop music, approach with caution. DTP's Deconstruction is an insane metal masterwork. Ghost, however, is such a beautiful album. You might just like it.

Ah I see! Actually I think we only have the FF record in common haha. I did listen to Skying though, I liked it and I'm going to listen to it more, because I'll be seeing them along with 13 other bands at this festival called Laneway (haven't gotten my ticket yet lol). Mine's a bit hard because I've heard quite a lot of really good albums, and I haven't listened to some of those I really want to listen to. But here's what I got so far, in no order: Letlive - Fake History (reissue), La Dispute - Wildlife, Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction/Ghost, Mastodon - The Hunter, Protest the Hero - Scurrilous, Touche Amore - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me, Thundercat - The Golden Age of Apocalypse, Death Grips - Exmilitary, Toro Y Moi - Underneath the Pine, The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum Complete Collection. There are more but I can't remember/not sure if they should be among the top. Anyway, I've been listening to American IV: Man Comes Around. It's AMAZING!

I understand. Gigs aren't cheap, it's an expensive hobby haha. Well, it's weird, Singapore's been having this sudden influx of bands coming. It's really cool, but not cool on our bank accounts hahaha. So have you decided on your Top 10 albums of this year?

Yeah, my family hasn't had a proper overseas vacation because of the size of my family (I have six siblings) and the fact that all of us are busy. So how's the concert scene in your area? Seen any good bands lately?

Totally know what you mean about America man. Yeah it really sucks, but I can't get out of it. I've already applied for deferment (postponement from army service) twice, so I can't escape anymore. I'd really like to do my degree overseas, I can imagine it's great exposure to different cultures. Plus, I've been stuck in Singapore my entire life so it'll be great. However, it'll be really expensive so I'll need to settle my options once I'm out. I really want to visit those areas as well.

Hahaha no worries man, it was pretty hilarious. Well, thanks man! Journalism is one of current modules I'm taking. Hopefully it'll spur my interest in journalism. I'm actually hoping to work overseas. I don't think I can do it here in Singapore. I really want to do a degree before looking for a job, but that won't be about 4 years due to conscription which will start mid-2012. I'm keen on working in a place like Australia because it looks like a really chill place and the music scene is developing well over there. How about you?

Haha dude, I live in Singapore! Hmm well I definitely want to get into the business of journalism. I'm strongly considering broadcast journalism, but right now I also have a strong desire to be a music writer. It's tough, but I still have time, thank God.

Hey sorry man! Forgot to reply you. Anyway, your review for Tintin is definitely the first negative one I've seen so far. Everyone's heaping praises over from what I see. And I really need to catch Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy. Any movies you're going to review soon?
