]Hotel of the Laughing Tree (you can hear 2 new songs here). here's my review of their debut record. Otherwise, I made this list. Water & Bodies, Bruce Peninsula, The Age of Rockets, Sound & Shape, Emanuel & the Fear, The River Empires are among a lot of the records I'm most excited about. Is there anything you might recommend?

I don't think Dark Empire is even big enough to say "no one is going to listen to them anymore". If they did get anywhere no will even know about Urban and I's involvement in that band years down the road.

Thanks man, I don't think its defunct I know they replaced Urban already. I'm an easy replacement, so they'll be fine.

they are fucking awesome, ben. Like I said on PM, their singer is the new singer of Textures. They sound like Meshuggah and the DEP ep with Patton rolled into one. Probably the most mature and complex of the "djent" bands around, but no one knows them because they are on a shitty label and don't have the same appeal all those young bands like Periphery have, but they pretty much shred all of them. And Daniel is an amazing singer, everything from gutteral growls to fairly high prog type vocals, he's all over the place. check out the album for sure if you are into that kind of stuff.

ahh, the name is familiar, probably from just reading the forum there. But he never asked me for any suggestions or anything that I recall.

I've been meaning to add to the blog, I've just been so busy and/or distracted. On the other hand, T.M.R. just released two new tracks this week and a video to go along with, so maybe I can write about that. Or X JAPAN @ Lolla. Or a slew of other things too. I guess I just figured no one was reading. My partner writers have fallen off the face of the earth too, so that kinda discouraged me, tbh. Thanks for the interest though! Seriously!

The Charm Offensive and Heaven Alive were alright, but not great, infact in my opinion not better than most of the songs on effloresce (which really is a rare album that is strong from start to finish). The rest of the album (EIP) save the 2 songs I mentioned were throwaways to me. Frames is much better so far, though it seems it might be starting to slip at the midway point now...

Everyone into position is disappointingly boring save "homage to a shame" and "meredith". Frames on the other hand is more in line with Effloresce, I'm digging it.

okay, I like Janelle Monáe. But the James Brown comparison doesn't really make much sense to me beyond a little bit of Tightrope. I'd compare her to someone like St.Vincent actually.

yeah, the Dead Letter Circus ep was what got me interested in them originally. And the debut full-length is turning out to be a lot better than I expected.

Umm.. you too man! (Sorry, I'm bad at responding to the nice taste shouts) You've really got a lot in your library, and it's hard for me to recommend something you haven't heard!

I wish the Tea Party Would get back together at least for a reunion show. That probably wont happen due to Jeff Martin's massive ego. Oh well, soo talented. I discovered them on Road Rash 3D for playstation when i was 13 or so. Been hooked ever since. (12 years)
