Thanks man, I'm pretty heavy into the P-Funk group of artists, especially the first three Funkadelic albums (and Cosmic Slop). I have Shaft and Hot Buttered Soul on vinyl, but I've been weary as to what to pick up next from Isaac Hayes. I think I'll get some Impressions material next time I'm "in the market." I see that we both like Big K.R.I.T., what do you think of his newest mixtape. I've slowed down with it, but for a while it was one of my favorites this year.

Thanks for the recommendation on Townes Van Zandt a while back. No, I don't have that album, just Rear View Mirror and a live bootleg, but I'll pick it up if I come across it. What's a good soul/funk artist that's somewhere around Baby Huey and Curtis?

I always like checking in on your page when I feel the soul/jazz starts to dip in my charts!

hey man, just starting to get into jazz, and i keep seeing your profile pop up on various artist's profiles. Mind recommending me some jazz albums that you feel are essential to anyone starting in the genre? I don't care how avant garde it may get, i just want you to give me some honest recs.

No prob man, was nervous for a lot of my folk on the East Coast, good to hear you're alive and well. And also, not to get too political, good to know for another 4 years we have an Al Green fan over there in that place on Pennsylvania Avenue...

Are you from D.C. or the area? I took a look at your blog btw, prolific! Sucks that it often takes an artist passing away for me to realize how small my collection of their material is. Any recommendations on Chuck Brown stuff?

Thanks for the notice. Will look into it. Bluelight is heavy stuff. Takes its toll to really read, but worthwhile.

yo, thanks. it's been fun. i've been thinking about dropping an installment with just instrumentals and then uploading the ones not on youtube. also, if time persists, i've been thinking about dropping an installment with just Nas samples. in the meantime, i'll probably just send out mixtape blends that stand out to me

word - reminds me a bit of Nas. I think I'll play them back-to-back soon... I'm also hearing that I need to scope out Wu vs. Shaolin, are you into that at all?

I like it. I admittedly never got too into Wu-Tang, just because they blew up so fast that it put me off. I think I'll check out Raek's other stuff as well.

Thanks for passing by again! Deeming from what you're sayin', it would be great if you posted something on the overview page for the Civil Rights Music group with links to the projects you're talkin' about. You have all the editorial permissions to make any change. Whenever you're ready, just add what you want!

I've listened to some of the links (Langston & Mingus sessions, avant garde!), and passed the word to some friends on the West Coast whom might be interested to check your blog out.
