Top 1? Oof... that's tough. I always say Outkast is my favorite hip-hop artist of all time, so I think it would be safe to say Andre 3000 would be my fav.

top 1 rapper? probably isaiah rashad purely cause civlia demo got me through a lot emotionally. in terms of overall lyricism, substance, wordplay, flow etc. id probably go with benny the butcher tbh. he's like everything i like in a rapper

oh hi! Hmmm... it's tough, but I find myself going back to Realm of Chaos the most lately. Still has a little bit of their grindcore roots in there, but the massive riffs they would become famous for. World Eater is just a monstrous track. Do you have a fav?

i have the dumbest thing ever with realms of chaos. i literally dont like it because of the production quality AND I KNOW THATS SO STUPID BUT FOR SOME REASON IT RUINS IT FOR ME 😭😭 oh and my fav bolt thrower record is Mercenary!! it was my first one and its just a really fun record to me

ConeyAllen
Haha I totally get that. The production isn't the best, and the drummer isn't that great either. IDK what it is that always brings me back to it, thought. Maybe it's the primitiveness of it all lol. Mercanary is a good one, not my fav but you really can't go wrong with any Bolt Thrower record. Those Once Loyal is pretty high up there for me since it's what got me into them.

i get u with the primitive thing, realms of chaos just feels so raw. those once loyal is sooo good and probably their most varied album. if i wasnt first-album-biased that would probably be my fav

I was fortunate enough to see them in Seattle earlier this year and when they announced a tour I figured I wouldn't need to see them twice but they were so good I'm definitely thinking about going again. Well worth it

It was Coney Allen. They called Coney Allen, "the playground of the world." There was no place like it, in the whole world, like Coney Allen when I was a youngster. No place in the world like it, and it was so fabulous. Now it's shrunk down to almost nothing, you see. And, uh, I still remember in my mind how things used to be, and uh, you know, I feel very bad. But people from all over the world came here. From all over the world, it was the playground -- they called it the playground of the world, over here. Anyways, uh, I... uh... you know... I even got -- when I was very small, I even got lost at Coney Allen, but they found me. On the, on the beach. And we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight. They don't do that anymore. Things changed, you see. They don't sleep anymore on the beach...

I want to soooooo bad. But I gotta save for the trip to WA and that sweet, sweet Botch merch. Tickets seem to still be available (funny how that works when you have dates to appease the fans and also a delivery delay lol) so if by a stroke of luck there are some available in the coming weeks I will probably pick em up. Maybe even try to snag some second hand as the date approaches. Can't imagine there's an amount of times that would be considered "too much" when it comes to seeing Botch live.

Very cool. And understandable. The delivery delay threw me off too; it basically just meant that there was a gap of 10-15 minutes when the digital ticket wouldn't appear in the app, but it's in there now. No idea why that was a thing. A Tuesday night show isn't really ideal but I feel like I can make it work... you'll have to let me know how your February show goes to build that hype.

oh man, so much to listen to. Trying to give them all an honest listen, but have spent most of my time with the new Wolves album so far. I will admit, I liked the new Deafheaven album more than I thought I would but I am not in love with it :/ . Gotta listen to the new Lorde album too, cause why not?? haha
Actions
-

Fair takes all around. Based off those Deafheaven singles I figured it'd be an acceptable album, but nowhere near the caliber I've come to expect from the band. And I feel like that's exactly what we got. It seems to be polarizing for sure. // It sounds like that Lorde album is getting panned pretty hard. I haven't listened to any of her stuff in quite a while – did you check it out?

Nice Oceanic plays. In the Absence of Truth + Wavering Radiant are both essential Isis records, too. Along with Celestial if you’re down with a bit more grit and chugga.

Oh yeah. My recent foray into Neurosis' discography has gotten me to check out some more Isis as well. Really enjoying Oceanic and Panopticon; Really wish their stuff was more readily available on wax (same with Neurosis as well). Also, I am always down for some more chugga.

Dude! it was great man. Really weird to hear them as a full, live band and not just a couple dudes who make music in their bedroom lol. Sounded great though. I actually had no idea they were re-working Trespassers W, stoked for that. Really liked the new songs, too.

Yeah, I thought they were worth the trek, for sure. Completely agree that it was captivating to hear their vocals and instrumentation so much more urgent and present than we're used to. Quite a different aesthetic, but it suits them well – I was a fan. I think the new songs sounded fantastic too. Sea of Worry is shaping up to outshine Unnatural World for me, at this rate. // The mix isn't complete on this version, but you can really hear how far Trespassers has come: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9m69oiuu2b28t0h/Trespassers%20W%203.0.wav?dl=0

A lot of Pelican’s discography can be wishy-washy in the sense that their full albums usually aren’t consistently engaging enough to warrant their total runtimes. Very much a mood band for me, outside a couple of records that have held up well in my books. That being said, the new one that drops this Friday is on another level. Bass tones and riffs that will be giving Russian Circles a run for their money in August, no doubt. I think a lot of people have swept Pelican under the rug or dismissed them as generic post-metal but I’d encourage you to try out the new singles at least. I’m really surprised by how much I’ve been enjoying them. Essentially a new band compared to what they had been churning out.

HMMM, I listened to the singles and they were interesting, I'm still not totally sold on Pelican. Admittedly, I am one of those people who have dismissed them... just can't seem to get into them. But I will for sure be giving this new album listen. Did it leak or something?

Yeah, it leaked a week or so ago. And I recently read that it’s the first album where their new guitarist contributed to the writing of every single track. I genuinely believe that’s where it’s really coming together for me. It’s paced well, has just the right amount of variety, no shortage of killer riffs and textures... I don’t know, it’s really clicked with me. A lot more than I imagined it would’ve.

Aw man, really? Guidance is a doozy. I've gotten a ton of mileage out of that one, myself. Brian stated in a recent interview that the new album has less ambience going on, and is a lot more "chunky" in the sense of riffs galore.

-
ConeyAllen
Dang, I can hear that in the new track, which I loved by the way. I am pretty stoked now. Im not too sure what it was about Guidance. I liked the singles but I think maybe at that time I just wasn't ready for some new Russian Circles, in the sense that I just wasn't was my music appetite was hungering for haha. Maybe I will revisit to get ready for the new album.

Yeah buddy, that’s what I like to hear. Completely fair point, by the way. I’m not in much of a mood to revisit their albums at the moment, but the itch comes and goes in waves. Hoping to get the RC fever as August draws closer. I’d definitely suggest trying Guidance again the next time you’re on that wavelength.

I’ve dragged friends to Mogwai who were completely oblivious to their music, and they’ve either left in awe or [the good kind of] tears, haha. Totally worth it, man, especially with how cheap tickets will be. And 9 days prior, 8/20, Godspeed are apparently playing. My head is spinning with the amount of Sacramento shows I’ll be catching this summer.
