Hey I don't really remember when either of us followed the other on here...but since you're still using last.fm unlike a lot of my 'follows' I'd thought I'd reach out and ask for some recommendations. My musical taste has grown and I'm gobbling up new shit eagerly nowadays. Cheers mate 😉

I'm doing just fine since my christmas break just started. Oh wow, I see. I'll check them out when I get the chance since there's a lot I've been meaning to listen to - as always. Maybe you should give Grandview, the new Pianos Become The Teeth record and The Hotelier a shot. Merry Christmas!

Hey! How have you been? Your musical taste seems to have changed quite a bit, at least judging from the last 7 days.

Aphex Twin rings a bell! Haha, take your time. (There's our usual time and music that is wanted to be listened to problem!) If you like to hear something crazy, check out Nero's Day at Disneyland - Eulogy for Nick Galvas.

Oh, I see. Electronic music is not directly up my alley, but I like bands such as 65daysofstatic and I'm open-minded, so I will check out your recommendations nonetheless. There can always be hidden gems! Uhm, I'm not sure if you know these artists but recently I've only discovered a handful of unknown artists that were to my liking. Here are a few with an album that stuck out for me each: Mansions' Dig Up The Dead, Khonnor's Handwriting (Not a newly found artists but it came to my mind when you talked about electronic music!), Johnossi's Mavericks and State Champs' The Finer Things (More of a refreshing pop-punk style). That's it for now. Enjoy, fellow music aficionado!

Hello there! It's been a while. Anything that I haven't heard yet that's interesting and you've been listening to lately?

Here's hoping! I've heard a lot of people say that about the heavy side but I really don't find it a chore! I guess years of putting myself through practically unlistenable Boris albums has finally paid off, haha. Check this anyway, Shambles from the first night of the tour. I need to get into more of the SH bands, considering how much I love Boris and ASIWYFA and The Mars Volta I should really have done that a long time ago. I haven't even listened to Bosnian Rainbows yet! My top two artists this year are Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs and Danny Brown... it's definitely been a weird year.

I'm gonna be doing ATG again for sure, it was so good last year! I think Jamie is more likely to play there too, I could easily see him headlining the second stage. Pretty Please is great, I Ain't Your Boy and Little Lives are my other favourites from that half of the album. The first 4 tracks on Muscle are so killer though! I don't really have an AOTY list for this year, I just didn't listen to enough new stuff! I find I'm so busy with uni that I'm getting lazier and lazier with my listening habits. New ASIWYFA has to be my top though. Fuck Buttons at ATG was my favourite show this year for sure, their records don't do them justice.

Ah man I didn't know you were abroad, a shame you can't see Jamie! He played No One Wins The War, Good Luck, Moving To Blackwater, Keep It To Yourself, and closed with Shambles. It was great! Good Luck and Shambles were especially good. I'm hoping he plays ArcTanGent fest his year, I know there are no more shows planned after this tour but it would be a perfect booking. Hope you're enjoying Spain!

No problem! Yes, I know, public transport in Barcelona works pretty well but it sucks when you have to go somewhere outside the city. :/

I saw your post on the Russian Circles event and I think it's gonna be hard for you to come back the same night of the concert. Maybe you already know this, but just in case: the last train of the day to Tarragona it's at 22 and the last bus it's usually at the same time. I guess you have nothing else to do than wait until 6AM :S

Hello Cosmonaut_! Great musical taste! I need to check out some of the artists in your library. I'm curious to know what you would think of my friends' band, MANKIND: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bedN-v9QMwc . Cheers from Sweden

Even sober MotFD can be a pretty weird one sometimes. They're a great band though and only ever released 2 EPs and 1 LP so are an easy one to get into! Boris are sadly a lot more difficult... Pink has some great stuff on it but it's far from one of their best albums. There's such variety in what they release you've really got to try a few before any of it starts to make sense. Try Feedbacker or Akuma No Uta for a nice mix of their earlier styles, or Smile or Rainbow for the best of their latest more traditional song-oriented work. Amplifier Worship, Dronevil and Flood are fantastic albums too but a little more difficult in general. People dick on New Album a fair bit but everyone knows Black Original is the shit. You gotta find the money for ATG though man. That lineup is just unmissable.

Ha I haven't even tried catching up. I've just been listening to new Boris and Rin Toshite Shigure material and not much else, shitloads of Masu Dore too. It's been a pretty japtastic year. I'm going to Arctangent at the end of the month though so hopefully I'll find some new bands I like there! I'll be sure to check out that album too, weird bonkers noise is usually my thing...

Yeah that's pretty much exactly how I feel too! I listened to Knots some more today and really appreciates it a whole lot more actually, it's definitely more of a grower than Distal for me so I'm hoping I'll absolutely love it before long. I've been really lazy at listening to new music this year so it's a good job all the relatively big name uk bands like CoR, FB and ASIWYFA have put out great albums, haha.

Yup! I think it's really good but not quite as consistent as Distal. I fucking LOVED Distal and I guess they didn't quite go in the direction I'd hoped for with Knots but oh man some of those songs are great. Opener, Impasses, and Standards & Practice are my faves so far. I need to listen to it some more though, I've been more into the new Fuck Buttons this month tbh. Real excited to see them at atg

I quite liked that! I've put off listening to Bosnian Rainbows for a while cause I'm burnt out on Omar after all the ATD-I / TMV stuff last year but I guess I should get round to giving them a proper listen soon. Deantoni is an insane drummer. Boris have gone back to being weird as fuck this year so I've mostly been listening to lots of them.

Gallops didn't play Birmingham :( ASIWYFA were just as good as expected though. They're playing an incredible set and it looks like losing Tony really didn't do them any harm (as if the album wasn't a good enough indication of that already...). You're seeing them tonight? Enjoy it!

They played Stem Cells, Thomas Midgeley Jr, Wolfrwrangler, Astronomy/Astrology, Shadow Fucking, The Cruel Sea, Luminiferous Aether and The Sleep Of Reason in roughly that order. It was real good man, they're so tight live. Shame you can't make any of the shows! Good to see you'll be going to ASIWYFA next week at least, I am massively excited about the bham show.

I just saw BATS again. They were rad as fuck but god damn, disappointing crowd. I was hoping the last album would have made them more popular given its absolutely fucking incredible but apparently not :( they were still brilliant though, hopefully they're added to Arctangent and me and you can party hard.

Oh man, I just got round to giving Opposites a full listen. It's just depressingly bad. It barely constitutes an album with the complete lack of cohesion between songs, why they though spreading it out over two discs was a good idea is beyond me. Glad you enjoyed BATS too at least, ridiculously good album. Completely took me by surprise. You got a link for ASIWYFA? I got a couple of dead ones :| Hoping for new Crash Of Rhinos to come out this year too, I only recently got into Distal but god damn its some great stuff. A little outdated perhaps but fucking great nonetheless.

I don't even know why i like Black Chandelier i just think its cute. Id rather they made cute pop songs than awful pop rock monstrousities... New BATS is so so good though. AOTY for me hands down. Ex-Lives and Noctourniquet weren't far off. I need to give Opposites another listen too but im not sure there's much point. New Foals next month is showing much more promise.

Haha christ Stingin' Belle is awful, I like Black Chandelier more. Funnily enough I was listening to OR round my friend's house a couple of days ago and thought exactly the same thing. I mean TGR, Bubbles and Cloud Of Stink are all fucking great even if the album as a whole is a bit of a cringefest. There's nothing on Opposites that comes close to those. How depressing. I'm just gonna go back to listening to shitloads of BATS again.

I knew they were gonna be on a loooong hiatus but the finality of Ced's statement is sad. I got through one disc of Opposites... it's pretty fucking gash. Annoying hints of a much better band as per but its incredible how they can make the longest album of their career, use more instrumentation than ever before and still write an album of songs that sound exactly the same. Props for that.

'Tis a great week in the land of UK music. I've been holding off listening to ASIWYFA and TTNG until I get through my current to-listen-to queue. But when I do, man is it going to be glorious. And throw in the fact that Tera Melos has a new release scheduled for April, all is right in the world of math-rock. How are you fancying the new albums?
