I know that. I don't know why you guys are getting worked up. Kievan Russia is a name often used in modern times. I have never once said that the Rus was Russia. Just...reread all my shouts. I'm saying Russia came from the Rus, that's why many modern historians call it Kievan Russia.

I never said they were russians, just that another name often used is Kievan Russia. They were the Rus people. They weren't belarusians, russians or ukrainians. It's just a modern name. If I remember correctly Kievan Rus is a modern name too, kinda like Harappa.

Kievan Rus has everything to do with Russian history...Muscovy was one of the successor states to Kievan Rus. Muscovy was the archetype for the modern Russian state. The Rus had as much influence on Russia as Ukraine, and the Rus people are the ancestors of most of the inhabitants Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. Rus became Russia when Muscovy re-conquered most of the Kievan Rus and began adopting a Byzantine influenced name which evolved into Russia, which happened around the 1400's I think. I hope you don't think I'm referring to what they called it in the 1000's or something.

Dang, I'm not really prejudiced, but I figure if I had to choose a people to hate it'd probably be the russians or the japanese. But anyways, you're kinda not making sense. You're basing all your information on something you learned in school, and unless you've done specific reserach into the field and seen the sources yourself...you're guilty of the same things you accuse me of. I'd like to find some specific research into it, but I don't think anyone has done any prominent papers that I've found. I'd assume most of the sources for a Ukrainian educational system would be Ukrainian. And I'm not sure where you get this paranoid belief that every source is Russian. Universities examine all possible sources. I don't think Minnesota State and Oxford really have some pro-Russian historical agenda.

do you like hate russians or something? you keep saying everything is from horrible russian sources. i strongly doubt that, but there's no way i'm going through the references section of that book. i just know its dozens of pages long.

how can you think a 7th grade teacher knows more than probably the most prestigious university in the world? i'd take oxford's word over anything I learned in high school in a second.

and those 3 aren't the founders of the federation, if you will, of kievan rus. they "founded" the city. they're nothing more than legend, but kiev was founded around 300-400 years before the rus. a viking named riurik created the rus as a political entity. and sorry, but I think oxford is a better source than 7th grade history. every country changes history to conform to their own beliefs. i'm sure ukraine doesn't want to be associated too much with russia. america and britain have differing accounts of the wars of 1776 and 1812.

rus refers to the region and the people. russia, belarus and the ukraine all came from this region and people. i never said he was the founding father of russia. but rus was interchangable with russia. http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/history/russia/kievanrus.html http://www.answers.com/topic/kievan-rus

kyi, khoryv and schek are mainly a legendon the founding of kiev. i'm not really qualified to go into detail about it, it's possible they existed and founded it, but doubtful. but I'm talking about the kievan rus rather than the city. and vladimir didn't found the rus so much as the most influential ruler. it was founded by a scandinavian prince in 862 after novgorod invited him to rule them, if you will. vladimir is a descendant of that prince.
