i've been recording the sounds of my commutes for some time now, the sounds of walking late at night around town, riding my bike, for some reason it feels like having a company when i'm recording, do you know the feeling? would you listen to my sounds if i were to publish them somewhere? it's been a while since you last recommend me something to listen to, miss you, hugs and kisses

yeah i feel that, i think the field recording process is inherently performance no matter how disconnected you are from the process (for example even the choice of when to start and stop recording could constitute as Performance) and i guess this recontextualises yr environment as something being performed, which maybe you can do without the need for the recording process if you were to engage in forever excited listening :) probably not related to the inital question, i like recording things, gives control over surroundings like its giving certain things a reason, i like recording with my phone but i now have a micro-cassette recorder and mini-cassette recorder and endlessly renting out a zoom h5 and i guess some sounds or atmospheres feel more appropriate for particular objects to record. i like this idea, i did a bunch of sound stuff in a public park a few weeks ago like dragging stones + branches + leaves and whatever, i liked the recorder being out and looking very obvious like -

Sorry it took so long but I finally got around to checking out Morley's Heavens Idleness Awaits... holy crap that's something special. I don't know what it is about those bloody Kiwis but they're just so much better at music than us Aussies, or maybe its just a South Island thing because everything good is either from Dunedin or Christchurch. Anyway in return I give you two improv solo guitar recs, the track "Time Between" by Tetuzi Akiyama off the Locust Records compilation "Wooden Guitar" and Music for the Bluegrass States by R. Keenan Lawler, hope you enjoy. Have a blessed day my friend and a belated happy new year.

hello! i listened to the entire wooden guitar album cuz i hate incomplete listening, WOW! one of my favourite solo guitar albums i can think of, the tetuzi akiyama trak was probably my favourite, something magical about that atmosphere and diversity in methodologies in guitar playing, the jack rose basho-raga + final sir richard bishop ragas are also beautiful, its all beautiful... music for the bluegrass states was also nice but in a different way, nice adventurous guitar playing but eventually hits a section so lovely i miss it as soon as it goes back to the more Adventurous """difficult""" passages, will seek out more that scratches that itch. i will share a couple albums in return, matthew j rolin - sea of stars (long form drone + basho) ashtray navigations - animalinterior (https://ashtraynavigations.bandcamp.com/album/animalinterior (Extreme Psychedelic guitar + cheap keyboard dronin, MUST blast or worthless) thank you so much, hope your year is blessed and today was wonderful!

Do you agree "Sky" by the Dead C constitutes the de facto Noise Rock manifesto? I would cut off my left nut to see them live. I nearly tried to go to Otago University all the way in fkn Kiwiland just to be in Dunedin cause they're there but I concluded that I'd end up offing myself if I had to be around those accents for more than a day.

sky is <3, idk what id consider a noise rock manifesto other than sister ray maybe , in terms of like influence on the music i think that and blue cheer led to first wave of the japan noise psych ,,, i guess for the more american style of the pigfuk stuf..... big black cables........... idk what im talking about this is a complete tangent. that brainbombs vid, https://haerverkindustrier.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-kaf-h-rverk they did a full album of the set, didnt get much attention, my tape came the other day i prefer hearing the tape to the digital version, peters vocals are quite irritatingly mixed, the tape brickwalls it a bit more :). have nice day (have you heard the dead c album repent? complete mindfuck for me, definitely their best... also heard morley's album heavens idleness awaits which is a primitivism guitar album which had some moments that blew my head off :) )

Nah but if you say its the best then I'm listening to it right now. Also Morely does American Primitivism?? Gotta check that out. I've kinda never bothered checking out his solo catalogue apart from Gate cause of how many fucking releases he has. Have you heard this? https://youtu.be/asYTbb-sPFo?si=MjAxgoHTE4sIKtxi The Tetuzi Akiyama piece is some of the most beautiful improv I've heard in a while. Hoping you are well coming into this holiday season and peace be upon you and your family. :)

Thirlwell's set was a bit of a flop, mostly just random electronic noises to my ears with a little theremin bit. Lawrence English presenting the Loren Mazzacane Connors piece was really good though. It was in a nice and intimate room and they had pillows you could take to lie down and close your eyes while the music was going. It was this pre-recorded thing output by four fender amps, beautiful washes of droning guitar noise. That thing finished just as soon as Ellen Fullman's thing was starting and man thank you for encouraging me to go because it was just spectacular. She had her long string instrument and the sounds coming out of that thing were genuinely out of this world. There was another lady called Teresa Wong going on the cello and guitar and it was just so good. It was a huge setup and there were a lot of chairs so initially the crowd watching was pretty big but by the time it ended after an hour or so only a quarter were left hahaha

Lawrence English ended up right behind me by the end of the Ellen Fullman performance, he was dressed funny in the usual Xer art guy way, massive doc martens and a funny hat, seemed like a cool guy though. I kinda regret not talking to him but I was coming off some cones and feeling really spaced out.

HELLO jg thirwell did weird electronics? Elaborate when you have the chance i am interested if it was like, a noise set or like Abstract dissonant electronics music. Loren's instillation thing sounds nice, his more recent direction of transforming his music into pure drone would definitely translate better in a more hi-fi setting i think. teresa wong is a frequent collaborator i think, i like their stuff together, i think it might make thd music more accessible for gigs and keeping people more engaged that arent so obsessive but if the room emptied out during the performance i guess it didnt work, what a shame 😟😟😟. i have seen pics of english in his strange clothes i think its cool , if you were to have spoken to him in that state you'd probably regret that too so don't Fret About it. any other highlights that weren't mentioned? this whole event sounds rlly cool, i have been trying to go as many gigs as possible recently its fun going to gigs of ppl I never heard before, blessed day

Sorry for the late response I got distracted. Yeah Thirlwell's set was definitely the latter, I like what I've heard from Foetus and I know he's a bit of an experimental legend but his performance was TRULY just shite, I guess if you've been doing it that long you can kinda just do whatever the fck you want maybe that's the point. I dunno if theresa would've really made it much more accessible as she was still just droning on the cello and guitar (with an ebow how good is that). Its a bit sad but also its a good pleb filter. There were a lot of rich looking chinese taking flash photos on their phones which was funny, absolutely unavoidable here in Sydney. It was interesting seeing such a general crowd at what would otherwise be a pretty niche event. You told me to catch St Abdullah as well but that would've meant me missing Loren which wasn't about to happen. Peace be with you my friend have a great day.

i do! i am mostly into the heavier subgenres now ,favourites of mine that arent too alien, SPK - Information Overload Unit (industrial, basically power electronics though) , genocide organ - 虐殺機 関 (death industrial, so bleak) , brighter death now - may all be dead (crossroads of death industrial + power electronics) , meat beat manifesto - armed audio warfare (breakbeat/industrial hiphop/ebm shit mhm). the most alien i will recommend is maybe con-dom - control domination, its probably a nice introduction to harsher style of industrial calld power electronics mhm. (I LOVE yr pfp, luv legoshi <3) have a blessed day

oh my i wonder why they hate it, it is probably my favourite from the roger, so many anthems before concluding with his magnum opus fourteen, one of those albums that i will take with me to the grave. i wonder what the consensus is for the best BDN album then... probably necrose evangelicum, i wouldnt mind if that is the case.

live shows on youtube are pretty great and the one live album i heard was loud as fuck so yes id love to see it and will take an opportunity that comes. the simplicity is one of the defining factors of the sound, over and over again drilling into yr head. innerwar is great , title trak is literally perfect. he is legend, i got a package from him that had a signed postcard of him hanging out, legend.

Wait nvm he won't be there in person :/ Someone else will be performing a piece he did with Jim O'Rourke... I'll go cause its free but I'm a bit miffed. https://volume.sydney/artists/loren-mazzacane-connors/ Oren Ambarchi will be there for one of the days but that's fifty bucks I simply don't have...

get excited for saint abdullah + jg thirwell but most importantly ellen fullman holy shit i wish i could see that live,,, hopefully one day i will. if you are not familiar with her it might be good to just go in completely blind but DO NOT MISS HER. lawrence english playing loren connors stuff would be worth seeing anyway because lawrence english is very talented and his label room40 is great, i'd imagine loren can't/doesnt want to do a lot of travelling these days, he's very old. tell me how it goes. oren ambarchi was playing with a band with haino in it in manchester and i missed it, i do regret it, idk if there would be another oppurtunity to see it... 50 bucks is a bit much...

Cheers for the rec! For the black metal personally I'd say a lot of NS (Or shit that inspired it) projects similar to Vothana you've heard have what you're looking for. Like Totale Vernichtung, early Satanic Warmaster, Goatmoon, Grand Belials Key, the likes sort of. I'd also say (worthwhile) DSBM suits your description eg. Shining and Abyssic Hate.

alright, i'll search it up, thanks! Where can I buy the vinyl? Afaik only a CD was released on Filth and Violence, it's pretty cheap on northern heritage. Keep me updated if you ever come across a rip though, i'm very curious to know what it sounds like too. Haha thanks, didn't have much of a choice, I just got what was available on Asrar. Couldn't be bothered to pick up Black Hole on northern heritage though, wasn't gonna pay 15€ shipping for a 25€ vinyl... Btw i'm looking for the 88 3xLp (Wrath88) boxset and the Vala 2xLp, if you know someone willing to sell those, let me know. Have a nice day :)

forgot to respond sorry, you missed out on black hole that album is pretty amazing, but yes spending so much on this physical music will only make you regret it immediately even if the music is great. i do not know anyone for selling those. will stay on the prowl for that new one from this year yes XE is like, infused with something incredibly additictive and i reaaaaaally want more... that vala LP seems noth worth it from memory , : ) enjoy your day

Do you have a Black Hole rip? If so, please share it :) Heh i'll have to disagree, if you're buying just for the music, then yeah vinyls aren't for you, but it's just like any collection, stamps, caps, etc.... They have value if you give them value, personally I do so I don't mind paying for a vinyl, but whatever sails your boat. They have the CD on nhfastore dot net. I agree, XE is really addictive, like any acquired taste. It's not the most convenient music to listen to though, since the songs are usually pretty long. Have a nice day!

HELLO, i heard bardo pond a very long time ago and i was very dismissive, are there any albums in particular i should try again? i would probably enjoy more now than i would have before. also that sternklang album looks like it would be golden, i will get to it asap, just taking a break from headphones for a bit because of hearing issues (shocker) and just going through tapes+recrds+cds i have bought and havent heard, having quite a nice time with this francis harold + the holograms tape but , i might suggest hearing the single by them Mirror of Fear / Retreat, its pretty great brainbombs/flipper style one riff per song jamming but with rllly sick excessive delay on the vocals and heavier garage style, sounds good i hope. also idk if you have been indoctrinated yet into it but the momentary aviary by vibracathedral orchestra i would think you might enjoy hopefully, if that isnt immediately amazing the split with sunroof! (MB) wings over america is also excellent have good day have good

yea dude i was just thinking last weekend to myself 'so what was that drone band from the 00s that put out a live 3xcd' lmao, my tastes have changed somewhat but guess im probly gonna try sunroof too. see back when i first went on the internet and discovered experimental music i would dig for some real weird mp3 shit on archive.org and music blogs and tape/limited cd rips on slsk, now to you (and me now) this is normal but to me it was new then,,, sadly some of that stuff is gone or tough to find coz internet itself is changed, but like for example if you can find this somewhere https://rateyourmusic.com/release/ep/no_snow/ep.p/ it's a dig or this https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/diaspora/the-unknowable/ (and other rels from both labels) also king crimson-ish can mean a lotta things

like i could write an entire paragraph on hnw and odd free improvisation bands but i've not listened to any in so long it'll probably be outdated and probably it'll turn out they're gone from the internet now and only i have a copy on some dusty external drive somewhere (that's if the zip isn't corrupted). maybe one day

i would appreciate any insight onto the 2000s hnw "scene", i am just listening to everything in retrospect now and it is sad how much music is missing from myspace pages and dead blogs websites super limited cdrs + tapes ect. i am not so compulsive in archiving myself but i appreciate those who are very much. anyway theres particular names who pop up around that early period who have very fucked availability of their music. (i am mostly annoyed with physical releases that were so limited that they probably wont be put online anywhere)... also my king crimson-ish comment, i just remembered that they sounded like discipline era king crimson, i am not very articulate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blessed Day

Wtf your dad is friends with Julian Cope?? That's just about the coolest thing I have ever heard. He's just about my favourite music writer ever and kinda one of the top overall considering all his other topics. Does this mean you've met him? Is he as infectiously enthusiastic in real life? You're one lucky fella.

have not got to meet him but apparently he is genuinely very infectiously enthusiastic is a good way to put it (he is quite a character yes (bizarre (cool))) i will try and get you some fun stories but you might have already heard them i think he has an auto biog. liverpool music scene has always been very good , not much on the noise side though but all is good.
