his page was hacked back then and all scrobbles deleted, so he restored them using some software. makes me feel old remembering this

If that was the case, why are there scrobbles from way before 2018? This looks more like he imported scrobbles from Spotify. You cannot submit scrobbles that are older than 14 days.

I was able to get the batch data from last.fm (not sure if you can do that anymore or not) and then manually scrobbled with... uh, I forget what scrobbling tool. I think it was a browser-based one. I believe you're correct that last.fm won't recognize plays older than 2 weeks though

Oh cool! I saw about that book. I should look into it! I did get the Butthole Surfers book at least. Have you seen any shows lately? I just saw The Body. It was sick.

Oooh, how is that? That one managed to fly under my radar. The NMN one is cool-- nothing necessarily earth-shattering but cool getting the story from the source. Awesome about the Body show! I haven't gotten out for much stuff in recent times but the Quicksand/Hot Water Music tour is coming right up the street from me in a few weeks; both groups, but especially Quicksand, were pretty huge for me and my brother is a fan too so I'm thinking that one might break the streak!

I haven't been to as much shows since I moved. I saw Melvins and Boris last year. It was so amazing. The Butthole Surfers book has lots of cool interviews from musicians. The live performance pictures in it are so sick. There's even a documentary in the works too. I saw an interview of Paul and King Coffey and they talked about maybe releasing some unrelated stuff. They rereleased some records on vinyl too. It's so cool seeing so much happening with them lately.

Hey! Yes, I listen to both actually. Bad Brains are a group I love whose first few recordings made a huge impression on me when I was young and getting into Hardcore Punk. I would still consider "Pay to Cum" to be one of the great Hardcore singles, and the self-titled and Rock for Light are both amazing, blistering records that showed, for anybody who needed showing, that musical virtuosity COULD be blended successfully with Hardcore, without a loss of the vitality and aggression that make Punk such exciting music. It took me a while longer to fully embrace I Against I and Quickness, I think in large part because I really didn't like the production and the mix on the former, but I now like them a lot too. The Vandals are a group I like but I wouldn't consider myself to be a huge fan of them or anything like that. Do you like both bands? Thanks for reaching out, and happy listening!

Yeah I’m pretty used to bands that had their prime music output in the beginning and fell off later on so it’s fine.I honestly might redownload GTA V just to listen to the punk radio station and listen to the bands on there again cause I remember a lot of the bands on there were the first time I ever heard hardcore punk. First time I heard of the bands black flag and agent Orange.

MisterJunior
Oh I meant more in the case of Punk bands sometimes all they put out before breaking up was a few singles, one 15-minute long album, or something like that. One of my favorites, NegativeFX, only played a couple of shows and released a single EP-length record. But yeah there are also a lot that follow the more standard trajectory of a couple or few good records followed by mediocrity. And many that started out as often amazing Punk acts before moving toward what would become Alt.Rock /Indie Rock, like The Replacements and Husker Du (another of my favorites). It's been a long time since I played GTA V but I do remember there being some very cool songs on that station, like "The Mouth Don't Stop" by Fear and "Bloodstains" by Agent Orange. I think the Adolescents were on there too? They're one whose first record absolutely rules but didn't do much else that I've liked...

-
Willgregg10
Agent Orange was one of those one record bands too I think. Someone was telling me everything after living in darkness sucked and I believe so , but that album was amazing. My friend and I listened to it last year before I really was interested in punk.

LOL, thank you! I've definitely left a lot of shouts on albums and artists I've listened to over the years. Can't believe I've been on here for over 15 years! Joined on a whim after my best friend told me about it and I really liked the tracking of listening habits and the way it visualized those habits, plus in those days the "radio stations" were a lot cooler and the music recommendation system was much more helpful-- I discovered lots of artists and records I don't think I'd ever have found without the awesome people I came into contact with via the site. I'm glad that despite its having some rough times and losing a lot of users, it's still hanging in there and I still love talking to other music fans on here. I really think that on the whole it's a healthier atmosphere than a lot of more popular social media sites; I've had some really wonderful interactions on here and met some great friends. Happy listening!

yeah it seems i have missed out on some quite cool stuff since i have not been on this website for even a year yet, but so far it has been real fun just going around shoutboxes, lurking on peoples libraries etc. it is nice that the site has gathered more users as the discord bot (.fmbot) has made it quite popular. i am excited to continue listening and finding new stuff to listen to in the future and this site has basically made me even bigger music fan.

Oh, cool, I didn't know that about the Discord element (I am pretty ignorant about Discord, but from what I do know of it, it reminds me somewhat of a much more technologically advanced IRC, which was what we chatted about shared interests, swapped music, and organized gaming sessions on when I was first getting into the internet and for sometime afterward) but I thought it seemed like the site had become more active in some ways. I'm all for anything that increases people's enjoyment of/enthusiasm for music and exposes people to new stuff they like. Thanks for reaching out! Btw following you now

Belated reply but I accepted it just in case you hadn't seen. I've gotten back to reading a lot the last couple years after being a bit lax in the preceding several years and yes, definitely fulfilling. I also have noticed what a beneficial affect it reading has on mental/emotional health, cognitive function, etc. And it really helps with one's attention span. The speed of life has gotten so fast and we're so inundated with constant stimulation that being able to sit and read and enjoy the silence for a half hour or whatever-- very nice. Hope all is well!

Decided I'd finally go a. and give a shout here. I always see you high up in the listeners you know section for many bands I listen too, as well as seeing an abundance of your shouts for many projects. For example past 10 or so days I have been doing a discog run of The Rolling Stones and it feels like you might have had a shout on every or near every LP. Always interesting to see what your view on a project was and I can compare it too how I found it. I have reached up too Black and Blue. So Some Girls tomorrow!

Thanks for reaching out! Yeah for a long time I was sort of leaving shouts to record my thoughts on albums, artists and songs for posterity. Sometimes I like to go back and comment again if my opinion has changed. How are you liking the Stones' discography? I think some of that mid- and later-era stuff has been kind of underrated over the years, though most of their stuff from the 80s and beyond certainly isn't like masterpiece level or anything.

Yeah I have heard of that LP getting panned at the time as an attempted Rolling Stones copt of Sgt. Pepper's even though I would say it almost sounds more like early Pink Floyd (that being said I need to hear their LPs soon too). And yes I really like Between the Buttons too! over the past months especially I have been now that I start to listen to mostly only full projects been able to discover so many cool projects from artists spanning the last 100 years of recordings (20s blues for example It's usallly modern compilations of singles and stuff). But yeah groups like the Rolling Stones had many different sounds over their records it makes each LP almost feel relatively fresh compared too the previous one. Also I got too see TRS live back in July with Zucchero opening in Gelsenkirchen, for their age the classic trio by now I would call them (i'd say Ron has earned the status) are strong. Especially Ron flies around the ramp though a bit younger than the other two.

And the rest of the performers with them are very talented as well including drummer Steve Jordan the only one I can remember by name and a drummer I enjoy a lot so was excited too hear he would be the new replacement drummer for the tour even though naturally I wished Charlie was still with us and was up on the stage. And definitely the music I am starting to discover the past years a lot came out way before I was born, I mean for Comparison Mick is almost a month over 70 years older than me haha.

Wow I was tired last night but remembered I typed 70 instead of 60 just now. I mean a 70 year difference too him would be a bit extreme. 60 years I suppose is quite a lot too. That is almost the age of my elder parent I have in difference to Mick.

Hey buddy! Good to hear from you. I would absolutely love to see them but I'm having some health issues at the moment (nothing life-threatening or anything) so I doubt it will be possible. Otherwise I'm doing mostly okay. I'm working on a novel at the moment actually and I've made a contract with myself that no matter what I WILL finish it. So even if it sucks and nothing more ever comes of it, at least I'll have done it. How are you doing? You going to the show?

So good to hear from you, Ryan! Do keep us updated on your book! I did not go for the Mercyful Fate show; however I did see Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral (!) , Immolation, about two weeks ago; killer show, needless to say. I have been good overall, got a new guitar so I try to play/practice as much as I can. I am still in Baltimore, do let me know if you're ever in town! Take care of yourself!

I'm hoping to go to visit Baltimore next year for an Orioles game and meeting up with a friend so if that works out I will definitely drop you a line ahead of time so hopefully we can get together and maybe catch a show or something. Take care!

My apologies now for the delay. Yeah BGWTB grew on me a lot when I revisited it years later when I was kinda getting back into heavier music again. Really fell in love with it hard. Some really excellent songwriting on there, great guitar, great everything. I will have to check out those film scores. I've added more film scores to my listening as time has gone on, which is not something i used to do. Will def check out the ones you listed.

i love paul so much. its frustrating how george became the trendy beatle to appreciate, while paul was considered too twee and john bad taste for the wife beating allegations and the popularity of imagine . i only really listened to ram for the first time out of morbid curiosity bc it was always the butt of jokes, but its just the best album, its on par with pet sounds for me

I think a lot of people just bash Paul reflexively because it was considered cool to do so in the aftermath of the Beatles' dissolution, and because he's done and said some goofy stuff in the intervening decades. John and to a lesser extent George benefit, image-wise, from their early deaths in the eyes of music fans. But I think a lot of people who knock Paul's post-Beatles career either haven't heard anything or have only heard stuff like "Silly Love Songs." IMO he had the best career after the band broke up and it's not even close, and I'd also rank his output during the 70s favorably against that of anyone else. Ram is an absolute masterpiece, Wild Life is very good (bordering on excellent I think), Venus and Mars and Band on the Run are very near to if not in the same ballpark as Ram, Wings at the Speed of Sound has some of the best material from Wings (and a couple of their worst songs)... plus he's had several strong releases in the decades since. Paul fucking rules

Hey! Just off the top of my head, I really like both versions from The Complete Matrix Tapes. The shorter one kicks my fucking ass all over the place-- such energy! They were a killer live band in general but I really love the stuff from '69. Not as Avantgarde as the '66-'67 days but as a touring band they were on fire. How about you?
