No, sad to say I am not learning -nor do I plan to learn- Icelandic, the infatuation with or interest for Iceland dates back to when Sugar Cubes put out their first album. Je suis woe-fully bilingual with English being my second language and sadly neither in English nor in Spanish am I as eloquent as thyself. Am I elsewhere online?.... does FB count?

A soft heart for Iceland, good music and landscape interpretation!? I just had to barge in and say hi. From your playlist I can recommend: http://amzn.com/0781811910. As a photographer I am interested in landscape as understood by institutions like http://www.clui.org/ and http://www2.colum.edu/american_places/ I noticed that Soul Coughing is not in your library, try Ruby Vroom. Nice meeting you.

I'm right in the center of the US of A. Mid-Missouri. Lots of outdoors around here, but a bland muggy form of greenness prevails. Trees clutch formless muddy banks and burnt crop stubble.

Hey, I'm requesting friendship based on: 1) your status as a top listener of Harry Partch, 2) the very concept of interpreting a landscape with reference to trees (& v.v.), and 3) your taste--though not so in sync with mine--being not only wholly respectable but somehow both eclectic and coherent. Um, I think that was convoluted enough...

If you were going to buy (or maybe you HAVE already) any recording in the world next week, what would it be?

hey loona! haha, punk in berlin, those must have been the days! and pommes frites are definitely a great invention, in berlin they like them combined with a "currywurst" (= greasy sausage containing a zillion calories at least)! as for the healthier food... good news about the epicurians carrying fromage frais in vermont! yeah, sorry, I didn't mean dry, I meant solid... so will send you the recipe later, it's the traditional cake my mom always used to bake for easter, and the dough is better than the yeast-based ones I find, fluffier, made from a combination of sunflower oil and quark. sounds weird, but tastes great! ***

yay, cake! and don't be confused by the french or english in my shoutboxes, I am german (have lived abroad a lttle though) and will be sending some thoroughly german cake recipes your way, ha! also, we're the same age = the age where one appreciates good food, right? anyway, I am about to make a streuselkuchen (crumb cake) for easter this week, just don't think you can get the main ingredient for the dough in the states, it's called quark and is some dry white dairy product, (in french it's called fromage frais.) hm, will think of something else, stay tuned! ***

Why we love Leonard Cohen, from an interview in Shambala Magazine, in reference to political ideology in his lyrics: "It is an irony that is dissolved, that is transcended. But I have no reason to defend one element or another, because it has to work on a more mysterious and a more urgent dimension." http://www.shambhalasun.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3369&Itemid=244

It must have been Mother Mother! Before that was Ruthie Foster and after that was Chris Velan and Richard Julian.. I played their song "Hay Loft." The new Mother Mother album is pretty intense, but good. I also just heard Between the Buried and Me's new album and it's pretty wild.. they call it "new wave polka grunge."

hey, welcome visitors: I have been really into cooking lately & invite you to post your favorite recipe here... since we're from so many places around the world, it seemed like a great place to collect a variety of tastes... pun intended! Here's mine: Mediteranean Pasta-- angel hair pasta, do not overcook!, olive oil, quartered canned artichoke hearts, capers, crumbled feta, pitted kalamata olives, halved, fresh cubed tomatoes & garlic. Take the sliced (so the pieces are short, not long-ways) garlic and 3 or 4 cubed tomatoes & saute in the olive oil (use plenty, so that the tomatoes swim in a large skillet) until you see the garlic (about 1/2 head) getting a little translucent (careful to not brown it-- like the tomatoes, you want it soft but not overcooked). Add artichoke hearts (1 or 2 cans) & capers (1/4 or 1/2 cup), & olives (1/2-1 cup) so that everything is heated through but not mushy... toss in the cooked pasta and feta. Serve hot or cold. Chicken or shrimp optional. Enjoy

Hi. My name's David and I live in the Forest of Dean. I know what you mean about 'Littlest Birds' . I love too many Tanyas songs to be able to pick a favourite. And the same goes for Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon. They're among my all-time heroes, along with Joni Mitchell and Neil Young... and Nick Drake, of course. (Did you spot the predominance of Canadians in that list? How do they manage to produce so many great musicians?)

Hi again. It's been a very pleasant day in the southwest of England. How's Vermont? Snowy? Thanks for the recommendations. I like Hanne Hukkelberg. The jury's still out on CocoRosie. Glad you like Rose Polenzani - she deserves wider recognition. Last.fm seem to have acquired a bad copy of the album August. There have been problems with every track I've heard. I've sent you a couple of tracks, although neither is available on demand. Is that a pointless thing to do? (I'm new to all this, so Im not sure.) In a way you've introduced me to Alela Diane. I'm just listening to her radio - it's excellent. Catch you later.

That means alot to me. It's a pretty humble day when I come across a listener like yourself because I have a great respect for Alela Diane's music. You have a really discerning ear and it's a sincere honor that you would listen.

Are you familiar with CocoRosie? I would place them in the same category as Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart.

The Current 93 album I'd most highly recommend is "Thunder Perfect Mind" (ah, but I see you've already found a few songs). I know one song by Renaldo and the Loaf, and I thought it was pretty good, so I'll definitely give one of their albums a listen some time. As for "The Weeping Song", I'll probably get there in a couple of months. I'm liking Cave so much that I'm planning to listen to his whole discog. Happy day to you too, "American Woman"! (ha - just listened to that one)
