Iain Lee gave a bad review to Viewtiful Joe on GameCube on Channel 4 morning show RI:SE because they ran out of time due to an advert break and said the cover made the game look bad.

I am really fascinated that you would want to tell me what Iain Lee said two decades ago about a videogame I've never heard of. Thank you, but I fear it's too late for us to save the GameCube now.

Hi. Just a belated thank you for accepting the request.. Man, you're open to quite a spectrum. Now I've got a least "one friend also listens to..." deal next to most any artist page I visit. Nice.

Blondies turned out thicker than I thought. In fact, they're probably denser now without the soda and powder. No, also heard The Fidelity Wars, too - and that was impressive, too. Haven't heard any of Darren's solo work yet, though - will investigate. Thanks!

Oh, shoot. It'll be good, all right, but flat - I just realized that I forgot to add both the baking soda AND the baking powder. Ah, well - they'll just have to be cookies. It's the taste that counts, anyway. ; ) Yeah, I really love Hefner now. I started with We Love the City, and I thought that was great - but then I heard Breaking God's Heart, and that completely blew my mind.

Thanks! Well, cold air is FINALLY creeping in around here. For the past few days, we've been reaching highs of 70 F (that's 21 C)! But I'm well, and happily busy. I love all that Christmas busy work - baking, wrapping presents, designing Christmas cards. Right now, I'm about to tackle some blonde brownies - they're a favorite in our household.

If the fellow below me hadn't blocked me from apologising to his shoutbox I would've but instead I have no choice but to assume he is a pathological liar.

Don't know why we argued really - we basically have the same opinion.Where we differ is that 6music seems to take much of it's influence from commercial radio & commercial alternative publications / web sites imo. Many of the producers / presenters have come from a background in these very same commercial organisations & don't seem able to brake out of their old habits (& it is controlled from Radio 2 which doesn't help).Don't mind the actual presentation (at the moment). It's the actual music played which takes a blue print from those commercial stations which you critisise (day time at least, anyway) which I object to (although there is much more variety of the same sort of music of course with classic pop etc. added in as well).Alternative music needs a game changer - 6music has the remit to do that. There seems a reluctance at the BBC to actually use the opportunity they have been given.Where's the modern day John Peel when we need him, basically.

6music plays ALOT of commercial pop-rock / alternative pop-rock though plus some music you wouldn't connect to the alternative side of music. Why are they choosing to play this type of music when it's 'dying on it's arse'.All 6music does is play a more varied selection uf this type of music.Day time is vertially Hot Adult Contemporary (as your father or Absolute radio what that is), apart from the odd curve ball thrown in. The 1.4 million listeners only works out on average about 50k per hour by the way based on average listener time of 6 hrs per week (which if I remember correctly was the average given for 6music - I probably listen about 4 hrs a week of it).

Sorry I didn't read your comment properly.Looks like you are backing the eventual closier of 6music then, eventually, unless it actually follows it's remit more fully. The alternative pop-rock commercial stations will see to this.Think 6music has a brilliant remit personally, I absolutely applaud the people who put that together - pity the controllers at 6music (it is linked to Radio 2 BTW - how stupid of BBC) can't deliver. Why are you celebrating that as someone who has music tastes that go towards the alternative side ??? [Am generally a supporter of the BBC BTW]

You're wrong about the remit bit.Part of the reason they were nearly closed was because they weren't following the remit & were competing with commercial radio (i.e. those other stations I named before). There were concerns whether 3 popular music stations should be run by the BBC http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/10/6-music-commercial-demographic-bbc Thomson conceded that some of the BBC's critics "have a point" when they complain that it was encroaching on markets that were previously off limits. "We must be prepared to define the boundaries of our public service. We must be prepared to know our limits," she said. "Some competitors had legitimate concerns about the corporation's "existing boundaries and its future ambition", Thomson added. "We are in a world where we can't do everything. We need to move to the world of 'either/or'." Wasn't a Caroline Thomson supporter at all but she did have a point to a certain extent.

No agenda really - apart from trying to make them follow their Remit.I'm not the only one http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb6music/NF1950413?thread=5752756 Most alternative music / radio fans in the UK have just given up complaining now.I'm not saying they don't play alternative music but even you must admit they don't follow this part of their remit at all very well, especially the the prioritising bit.It doesn't say some of, it say prioritise. 'It should focus on new music, particularly that made by UK artists, prioritising less familiar acts who may become enduring icons in the future but who do not enjoy commercial support, thus demonstrating its independence from commercial interests.' I know the BBC comment's were from 2008 but there's not alot of change in the areas of music they play from then to now.

Glad you agree about The Cribs who have been featured highly on 6music BTW which is part of my point. What I've heard is that most people don't listen to 6music because there is too much 'NME' / Indie landfill & Indie pop bands played - bands which have alot of airplay on the stations I named below. There are plenty of melodic, yet creative alternative artists out there that just don't get a look in on 6music which people would love to hear & over time would gain them listeners.I was right behind 6music being saved & they attracted alot of listeners to the station.Think they will start loosing listeners soon if they aren't careful - alot of their listeners they attract our basically the wrong audience at the moment.Too much crossover with listeners of below stations which they don't need to do.Peel wouldn't have gone any where near what those stations most of the time.Think Peel went too far down the obscure at times as well though.Think you are too apologetic for 6music.

Just trying my best to 'try' & support artists that play alternative music that's all, which is the main purpose of 6music if you read their remit (some may disagree). There's plenty of pop-rock / alternative pop-rock / corporate 'indie' (http://www.nme.com/news/the-cribs/63445 - they are a corporate garage rock revival band as far as I'm concerned) radio stations in the UK - NME, XFM, Absolute, Q.The UK needs a station that 'concentrates' on genuine alternative music - which only can be done by the BBC.Your playlist has quite alot of alternative pop-rock & I listen to alot more than what's on my playlist BTW. Couldn't give a shit if you call that paranoia - if John Peel was paranoid am glad to be called that.

I saw you scrobbling on Spotify this morning and asked for an invite. I might dish out the dough for a subscription eventually, but I'll have to try it first. As for buying CDs...I enjoy having something tangible. Easier to share and show off. And I really dig liner notes, especially special editions that include interviews or insight into the songs. I've mostly been ordering through Amazon, where most CDs (save for imports) are around $5-$6 - over half-off the shelf/download price of $10-13. And vinyls...I bought my dad an USB turntable a few years ago (which I've basically adopted). You can plug it into the computer and upload everything you hear into iTunes!

Oooh. Don't know if I can afford it now, but I'd love to immerse myself in the Kinks. What I need to do is rummage through record stores. Many of the vinyls I've found become my absolute favorite albums: Outlandos d'Amour, Look Sharp!, Close to the Edge, Silk Degrees, The Band's Brown Album...I've inherited a ton from my dad, but I've bought about a dozen on my own. What about you?

Study abroad program. Studied English in Swansea University. I've always wanted to be in the UK, and I could choose between either Reading or Swansea. Latter option appeared more charming. I don't regret it, either. But yeah, weird how that happens, eh? The Kinks are also almost impossible to find here - which flabbergasts me, since they have pretty moderate airplay on the radio (mostly through Lola).

Sounds like a trip to Amazon. XTC is fairly obscure here in the States. (Oh, how I miss Wales!)

Thanks for the XTC suggestion. I'd been eying Wires and Drums for a while, but it's always a little pricey. (But I probably will check it out eventually!)

Fair enough. I love useless trivia concerning music. (That's probably why I still love the radio.)

Ha! I'll trust you, then. Although, honestly, I don't know if I'll pursue every item on the list myself. But I still wouldn't mind owning the book to read the essays.

Oooh. I can't say I try to flesh out the discographies of ALL my favorite artists, but I am working on five or six of 'em right now. For the past few months I've been working on breadth instead of depth for my library, but now I need depth. By the way, I just read an article yesterday from a distinguished music critic who trashed the 1001 list, claiming that there's far too many obscure British artists and contemporary trash, and not enough reggae, jazz, or country. (Read it here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1LNCE0HDZR3GW/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R1LNCE0HDZR3GW) You think that's true?

Noticed in your journals that you're also following the 1001 Albums list...I am, too, but not necessarily in chronological order. I don't own the book, though, although I want it badly.

Yeah, and that's really the only Goats track I know, 'cause it was included in one of these indie mixes that one of our college radios distributed. I do really need that album, though. Of course, I need a TON of albums...including from Arcade Fire...I saw them on The Colbert Show last summer...what an impressive lineup!

Sheesh, everyone knows "Georgia on My Mind"; anyone that recognized where I was from would sing the chorus. I'd be more impressed if someone sang a bar of the Mountain Goats' "Going to Georgia" (on Zopilote Machine). Or "Georgia" by Boz Scaggs (which really isn't about our state, but it's still way more hip).

-

Well, it's true. Hardly anyone in the UK knows where Georgia is unless they've been there. So I felt like I had to represent my state well. Still do, actually.
