Have you seen the film 'Drive' yet? Its excellent and has a great soundtrack with Desire and Chromatics both making appearances, the films ends with this choice cut from College http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DSVDcw6iW8&feature=share Apologies if im preaching to the converted.

Hi Rajesh I've listened to the 1st half hour of the Shackleton fabric album via the soundcloud fact posted and i've been pretty impressed need to get a really quality copy and give it a proper listen on headphones. The new Kanye album really surprised me, despite its universally good reviews i really wasnt expecting to like it as much as I do. Have you heard the 1st Raime ep? I thought that was pretty damn fine too and im loving the whole aesthetic of the label http://blackesteverblack.blogspot.com/. They made their UK live debut supporting Eyeless In Gaza last night and while they make minimal bleak shackletonesque soundscapes their key influences are 80's post punk and industrial, on the site you can find some great mixes that really contextualise their music.

I've just saw your Kris Menace mail, but the folder is no longer available. I was on my vacations. Anyway, my favorite remix is for "She's Madonna ". :)

Thanks for the Russell-related link, although I already have the mentioned track :p It's a great version indeed. And I'll soon check out F%ck Buttons' new record. I must admit that I weren't really wild about their debut. But the fact that they now took the cool Andrew Weatherall as producer, I'm quite curious :) Btw, jiggiemiester here below is right. Shackleton's 3eps is good! Listen to it to kick off your Fever Ray addiction! :D

I think I like the shackleton album because unlike a lot of the dubtech / future garage that im really excited about right now the shackleton album seems to stand on its own as something altogether different, like you say a 'solid' piece of work something a little more substantial. It has a hypnotic, pulsing, narcotic drive to it that keeps drawing me back to listen to it . I really like the Eno mix and the recent Moderat mix he's done too. On a lighter note Im sure a Russell fan like yourself will appreciate this http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=31031&highlight=31032

Id be very intrigued to hear your thoughts on the new Shackleton album 3eps, not sure its really your thing and admittedly its extremely bleak as a front to back listening experience, let me know if you need a link.

Finally someone believes me :) I just found the track through the power of google, and it's called "Dreaming of the Queen". Håkan is somewhat infamous here for borrowing other peoples music (morrissey, mercury rev) and the h8rs even call him Håkan Helstöld (roughly translates to "complete theft"). I have to admit he did a decent job with this though. Thanks for the link, do I need to register to hear those?

In my quest to own all the music in the world (at least in digital form), I indeed have Fever Ray's cover of Bunyan's 'Here Before'. The reason why she covered it is quite dubious though: it appears on a compilation called "Musiken Vi Hatar" or Music We Hate. Namely, the goal for (Swedish) artists -like Familjen and Andreas Tilliander- was to cover tracks they totally dislike. I don't understand at all how Karin Dreijer can 'hate' Bunyan's wonderful folksong. Maybe it was meant ironic, because I've read she sometimes plays it live -watch this for example. So why would she play a track she hates? :) Btw, like I mentioned before, I don't like what she (in collaboration with Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid) did with the song. It's messed up. If that was voluntary, she indeed hates the song :D

Yes, I love Richard's works. Keep an eye out for his Landings project. He should be releasing a book+music soon. UBS is great as well. I playes guest percussion for them in Amsterdam in May - wonderful guys & gals! Agitated Radio Pilot is great as well. Also been digging more Eyeless lately, thanks to your tips. Got the Summer Salt & Subway Sun box for a good price on eBay, very nice work.

you mister, are obsessed with the Pet Shop Boys. Give other music a chance! :p (It wouldn't surprise me if you got their whole discography on your disk.) Btw, I'm listening to that PSB production, the cover of 'I'm In Love With a German Film Star'. It's good but I still prefer the original by the Passions :) (And the Paape remix isn't exceptional either.) You're gonna be angry now? :D Another btw: try to find Fever Ray's cover of Bunyan's Here Before. It's hilarious. She totally messes it up. Completely out of tune, bizarre synths etc. At a certain point it sounds like she's vomiting or something LOL. The original is so beautiful and innocent, sung in an almost whispering voice. Karin made a weird choice here... Well her cover confirms my love/hate relationship with her :)

Bergen? Woow. I wish I was there too. My biotope these days is my room with a desk. And yeah I've been listening a lot to Joy Division lately. I guess music reflects the mood... Have a good time there. Maybe you'll encounter Erlend Øye :) (btw, here on the beloved basic sounds blog, you can find the new John Foxx and Robin Guthrie ambient record)
