They are really different. Once you cross the SE border between Arizona and Colorado you know you've moved between cultures. I don't know how to explain it, but that little imaginary line between states really means something between those two. I had a big culture shock in Scottsdale. Nice, Americorps is great. My cousin worked with them. What goes on with fund development?

Haha, a comic convention! I guess they're big Babylon 5 fans. Congrats on being done with school! It's great you got a job lined up and everything. What did you get your degree in? My life's been pretty laid back the last month or so. I was working a lot and then I moved back to Colorado. Now I'm working from home and also sorta self-employed, or at least working on getting there.

Yeah, it is a bummer. I hadn't posted there in... Probably a year or a year in a half. I did meet M-A and his BF this summer when they happened to be in Phoenix for a convention, which made my whole year. They are such great people. Life's been pretty good. How about for you? Are you finished with school?

Yeah, and the fact that either (or both) have taken over arcade fire? madness. I see they've made it onto your recent top lists.

OK.. could the songs simply involve cars? Because my first thoughts are "No Cars Go" and "In the Backseat"... since I pretty much think in arcade fire songs. Or "Passenger Seat" by Death Cab for Cutie. Also, "Dashboard" by Modest Mouse. Do these help? Or do you want country songs explicitly about pickup trucks?

I plan what I am teaching to my students, usually. But I could listen while I work or in lieu of working :) Sounds pretty awesome, I regret not listening to things more at Wellesley. I take it its streaming somewhere?

Oh man, I saw that video of them doing Margin Walker on Stereogum! Was that the show you were at? The cover sounded awesome. But I'm a huge Fugazi fan, so just about any Fugazi cover works for me... Except that awful Billy Talent cover of Waiting Room (soooo entry level) or whatever they did. Screamales are awesome. Marissa, the guitarist in the band, is probably my favorite modern guitarist. She can shredddd, man. It's so badass. I'm really excited to see them. How could someone not love this?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSXoGj_gRLI I follow a lot of music releases still. Or try to. There's so much out there. I keep an eye on RateYourMusic's best of the year lists and religiously watch for releases on emusic and lastfm. I'm always so excited for each release. I'm kind of a geek about it. :s I'm still finding stuff from last year that I missed that I end up really loving, though. Heh, Santorum lovers. My dad's really conservative, but he's not a Santorum fan. #tybasedgod.

How was Wild Flag? Sorry you've had some lows, but I guess that's life. ): Glad everything else is tip top, though. No worries about taking awhile to reply (or not replying at all, haha); I'm aware not everyone has as much spare time as I do. Yeah, the Kony thing is odd. Fads come and go, though! I wouldn't call myself cynical, but it is hard for me to see the Kony thing as anything but a fad. Ahh, the Santorum n-word deal. I watched the video a couple times and didn't really make it out super clearly. I mean, it kinda sounded like it, but it's hard for me to really say, you know? Like, you go into it expecting to hear the n-word, so you hear the n-word. So I mean, I wouldn't be surprised given who we're talking about, but I can't in all honesty say I heard it clear as day, either. The Joy Formidable show was really good, and I was even going more for the opening act! Haha.

Oh, it's all good. I'm sure you did swell on your midterms, but good luck anyway. I think it's good to see it as a journey. I also think it's probably great to look for solutions outside government, probably because I'm a sucker for that old saying about how you gotta do something yourself if you want it done right. :p I imagine it would be fairly hard to be conservative at a lot of schools, but that probably helps conservatives more than liberals in the long run, because their ideas get tested a lot more -- so even if they're wrong, they at least have better arguments, haha. But then, maybe not. Yeah, I saw the news last night about the one guy getting busted for public masturbation or whatever. It's always a thrill when someone who seems exceptionally weird gets caught doing something exceptionally weird. I have not been to the Joy Formidable show yet (doors at 8 pm!), but I will tell you how it goes! I'm exciteddd.

I guess I'm not very much of a moderate myself. I think I'm probably a pretty out there classical liberal or civil libertarian. I mean, I feel like I listen to what everyone has to say and all. I'm not like a sign-waving lunatic or anything, and I change my mind about things pretty frequently. But there's definitely a core to what I believe that hasn't changed since I was an early teenager. Just... evolved a bit. I'm always interested in what attracts people to their politics, though, so what makes you comfortable with yours? I am familiar with the Kony 2012 thing, but I haven't paid a large amount of attention to it. I think it's a bit like something like, say, TWLOHA. There's a noble goal behind each (curing mental illness/ending genocide), but the actual way the two are going about it seems a little shady and I'm not much for Facebook slacktivism.

Neat. My uncle does some sound engineering stuff when he has spare time and it's always fascinated me. Well, I don't really know what your politics are, so sorry in advance if I sound offensive or crazy. But I think the issue closest to my heart on this topic is probably homeschooling, because I was homeschooled. And now you have these Tim Tebow/Rick Santorum/etc characters who either were homeschooled or are homeschooling their kids, and people on both sides are turning this personal choice into some political issue, where homeschooling is either Really Great™, so vote for a Republican, or Really Awful™, so vote for a Democrat. But I see it with gay rights and homeschooling and drug use and all this stuff where it's an intensely personal thing that people are making into a "Vote for me!" campaign. It just bugs me a little. I checked out your station site, that's awesome! I think 91.5 is the same station number as the college station I listen to when I'm in the Springs, haha, craziness

Haha, I only took a bit of Latin in high school, so it's not very useful unless I end up at the Vatican someday. Yeah, controversial would be a good word for it. It's not really my sort of politics and when I heard him interviewed, he sounded kind of like a jerk (unsurprising). I'm always very skeptical of books like that, with regards to their veracity. I mean, for all I know, it's 100% true, but yeah... That sounds like a cool album. Do you guys have a way to get it recorded? Or have you already done that? Yeah, I don't know why I spend so much time following politics anymore. It feels so inauthentic and like such a scam to me. Lately I feel like there are all these things I care about that have become "political issues," when they really aren't political to begin with. I don't know, it's frustrating. I'm still hooked, though. What kind of music do you guys play at the radio station? Being a DJ would be awesome!

That sounds really cool, about doing international development and all. What country do you want to do development in? Costa Rica? In 40 years, you'll be able to write a book like Confessions of an Economic Hit Man! Haha. I find the idea of ever having a lot of money somewhat terrifying, but I love doing charity and volunteer work, so should I ever come across a small fortune, I imagine I'll still be living in some mediocre apartment donating most of my cash to charity, haha. I don't think most people would think of me as a bleeding heart without knowing me well first, but I totally am. ;_; What's your concept album's concept, if I may ask? As far as hobbies and stuff go, I spend a lot of time with my girlfriend and bff. I listen to music and nerd out in World of Warcraft, too. I'm generally a huge internet + news junkie. I have a pretty laid back life, haha. What sort of stuff do you do for fun?

Hot Topic and Spencer's are of the debulllll! Economics and music, right on. My dad was a poli sci major. Are you planning on going onto law school? That's cool you're so into music. I have very little technical understanding of music, so I'm always very jealous of people who either have put a lot of time into it or just have a really natural understanding of how it works. That's great you have a band! Do you play drums in it, too? Well, my aunt has a degree in anthropology from Oberlin and my grandfather was a PhD primatologist from Berkeley, so there's been a lot of anthropology in my family and I grew up around people being really into it. It fascinates me. But then, after I decided against school, I realized my dad owned a stock trading school and thought I should check it out. My original plan, actually, from the time I was a teenager, was to trade stocks/futures/etc. I've always loved economics and markets and all, but I had to at least give college a try, so I did that first.

Oh, I am ofc the counter culture king. That drumming stuff sounds really awesome! I'm totally jealous you do that. I imagine East Coast is definitely a lot different than SoCal. I used to go to upstate NY over the summer, near a couple more, uh, "traditional" colleges and the culture is really different from what I'm used to as well. Well, the Buddhist thing is odd. I've gotten really into meditation and breathing techniques and general existential/Buddhist philosophy as part of an ongoing process of... self-improvement, starting a couple years ago, but really intensifying last October when I dropped out. I'm hopefully a much more mellow person than I used to be. :p So you mentioned anthropology -- that was my major! What's yours?

Oh, that's cool. Good luck! I was looking at joining the Peace Corps for awhile, but then I met my girlfriend and realized I am terrible at foreign languages. Are you enjoying college? I dropped out. It's a long story, but college and I aren't meant to be. I worked really hard and had good grades, but it wasn't fun and I didn't like where it was taking me. So, due to some fortuitous life circumstances, I am starting to trade stocks. It's pretty enjoyable and a lot more "me" than college was. I like being able to do whatever I want, and college + a "career" aren't really things that let me do whatever I enjoy. I think trading's going to give me a bit more flexibility while still keeping me off the streets. :p I was telling my dad the other day that I think I would have joined the Peace Corps or become a Buddhist monk if I didn't have other responsibilities, haha. Rambleramble.

That sounds like it'd be a great experience. What sort of stuff do they look for on the application? I'm doing pretty well also. Not up to anything as exciting as being a teacher in Costa Rica, buuuut I can't complain. :p
