Hey how's your secondment going? I relistened to Bonobo's Solid Steel the other night again and thought of you! What's new on the music atm? I've kind of gone massively ambient a la ASC/classical a la Tavener and The Cinematic Orchestra's new stuff, which I periodically do. You heard TCO's new one at all?

Ah no worries, we should party one day soon though. I've never really given Deadboy much of my time TBH, which is really odd given the artists he 'sounds like'. But that's a really cool track. Obviously his earlier stuff just didn't appeal as much http://www.discogs.com/Deadboy-If-U-Want-Me/master/292598. Addison Groove annoys me more though with Footcrab. I like the housey direction that these future garage heads are taking.

If you fancy trekking up to MCR I'm having a housewarming party. Megabus should be what, £15? It would be so good if you came up. We could beast the decks together :)

:D it's so good isn't it! The Face EP is definitely worth checking out - that track is one of four strong numbers. The first is kind of Bashmoreish, that's the second, the third is Disclosure's own smooth sound, and the fourth is garage heaven. Ahh yes, the Blakemeister; I can definitely see parallels between the two: you either love 'em or hate 'em. CMYK was such a classic, but his album just seemed to drop off into something a lot of us couldn't appreciate. So many people I know were totally disappointed by it. However, I do think about my friend who died when it comes to The Wilhelm Scream, so that reserves a special place for me. Apart from that though, mainly forgettable. He burned twice as bright... his earlier releases have so much more to them than the (maybe not self-important but certainly something similar) minimalism of his album.

Oh, before I forget: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlIB1RUs_pU I'm not sure how much the video will appeal to you. But the tune is quality. Loving Disclosure right now.

Okay, Don't Break My Love: good. Nice production and has the kind of catchiness to it that Space Is Only Noise either didn't have for me. Balance Her In Between Your Eyes: again, same. The remix I quite like too. But there's something about this guy that just doesn't grab me in the way, say, the equally experimental (please note here that experimental electronica isn't really a genre I'm that into) Susumu Yokota grabs me in every single one of this albums. It's not that he's not good (he obviously is), it's that he doesn't appeal, and I can't really put my finger on why.

On second listening (normally a good gauge of whether I'll enjoy something), I can't say Jaar had me hooked with Space Is Only Noise. He has the potential to appeal to me, so I'll give him one more shot on your recommendation. If there's an album or sound which you know will speak to my ears, let me know and he may have one extra fan! Before it's too laaaate!

On a different note, have you checked out ASC's Deep Space mix series at all? http://theasc.blogspot.co.uk/p/deep-space-mix-series.html Great for late night, pre-bedtime listening.

Nice vibes! I've been enjoying Dauwd's release quite a bit since you mentioned him to me. Apart from that, rinsing the hell out of Machinedrum has been the name of my game. As for Jaar, his Space Is Only Noise has been sitting in my library for months now. I listened to less than half of it in a cold train station waiting room, but it refused to inspire my ears. They may pluck up the courage once again soon.

Listened to that Bonobo Boiler Room a nice amount - decent mix. It was you who showed me Dauwd right? What do you think of Sepalcure? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHwRhnu0eCE Their album is pretty good, I LOVE Pencil Pimp and No Think.

Oh, I've decided that, on balance, I like the Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto album. The first one or two tracks, I wasn't sure about, but it's one of those rare albums which actually gets better further on.

Yeah, Malick has never been one for logic - always for poetry in motion. The Thin Red Line ranks alongside my top films of all time. IQ84 is currently on hold! I just started Dune, although an epic, not as epic as one might think - only around 600 pages! As for AK, my girlfriend is about a quarter of the way through but hasn't read it for months. It is indeed Tolstoy's Monster. :D haha, I totally agree. I just steer clear of genres in my iTunes library - it's a bloody minefield. But for ease of classification in conversation, I use them :p and if someone asked me what music I liked, I'd say techno, post-dubstep etc. Even though techno of 2012 (Scuba) is nothing like techno of 1992 (Orbital). Speaking of Scuba, have you checked out his latest release? I absolutely love him - Adrenalin EP was some damn fine shit. Ahhh, you do love Bonobo don't you! I dig him too, Black Sands was his best work to date IMO, and that's saying a lot as his earlier releases are absolutely brilliant.

Oh, ten years was a joke haha! A few months I think. I've almost finished it. I'm going to read some Malcolm Gladwell next - he's pretty good. And I need to crack on with Murakami's new trilogy 1Q84.

Ahh, love those two! Ordinary Things "live" was absolutely amazing. I wasn't even coming up on it and it was still a babe. Then I think Jacques might've dropped it again when I was, and it was immense. Or maybe xxxy played Another Girl and then Jacques did? Can't remember. It was such an intense night though. I'm gonna give Ravedeath another listen. But I like the sound of how you've explained DPs. Currently giving Will I Dream... a listen! I think I prefer Rigning, but I absolutely love the latter so... :)

Deadbeats had a great unknown album called Lounging. The CD is £50 but I saw a rapidshare link somewhere on the net; think there's only one. Their second album is chilled but not as good. Re Deadbeat, give Journeyman's Annual a go. VERY different sound. Some stompers on there too. Case in point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_ejNMioSKQ FUCKING COOL. I also uploaded this badboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtcBhCCCFKo (not all are lyrical though). I'm confused re Tim Hecker - I can't find DP as an album? I've found The Piano Drop as a track on Ravedeath? Defo will check that stuff out btw. And I'm glad you're liking Tropics! A friend of a friend (literally) :)

Hahaa, no way! JG is PRIME compared with xxxy. HOWEVER, I saw them both in Leeds and they were equally fucking stunning in their own right. My friend claims xxxy was better (he prefers JG); I say JG. Personally I think these respective claims are due to his coming up on xxxy, my coming up on JG. I do bloody love xxxy's FACT mix though, it's amazing - have you heard it? Oh, JG has some new shit out soon, at the end of the month. Check it out. I'm on NJ now.

Will do, already checked Ravedeath, 1972 which is pretty good. Deadbeats, yes. And also Deadbeat. They're both great. Love Bonobo live! Would've been even better to see Bonobo orchestral. I love consistently great record labels; G-Stone aside, ESL Recordings with Thievery Corporation etc was a goodun for me. Ninja Tune's nice, not heard much Young Turks - what is it? Oh shit, just saw Stimming in your lists, you have to hear this if you haven't already. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVeHWXpyBUo the entire album is minimal tech genius. Re Modeselektor, I completely agree, but a couple of tracks stand out after a few listens: Blue Clouds, Berlin and Green Light, Go. Pretentious Friends is a grower, definitely. As is Shipwreck with Thom Yorke. The last tracks I think are okay... it's the best they've done but I've never been mad about them. Good call on Autoharp - my favourite Hooverphonic track! Re Clint Mansell, love Welcome to Lunar Industries. Have you heard Jacques Greene at all?

... (on the subject of people whose names end in "en") called Arkin Allen, released a lot of stuff under Mercan Dede. I used to listen to him a lot. Give it a go if you want some Turkish vibes - I highly recommend his album Sufi Dreams. I did give ol' Ellen and Apparat a listen years ago when I was delving into techy house. I could never decide if that bubble sound they like annoyed me or if I loved it. And on the subject I recently checked out Apparat's solo stuff, yes I dig (love his track Over and Over), but as I'm sure we discussed, Moderat grinds it into the dirt. As for Allien on her own, similar feeling to, say, Dinki and Steffi and the other primarily German minimal tech house girls; I do like it, but it doesn't give me a massive eargasm. Oh, finally got round to listening to Sascha Funke's album - I see what you mean by work-out haha. It's nice. I can now see how well his beats fit with Kraviz's music porn. Have we talked about Modeselektor's new album at all?

I know, tell me about it. It can get tedious occasionally but it's good for some background vibes. If you dig Suzuki definitely look into Suzuki in Dub. I was so excited, after having rinsed the fuck out of Suzuki every day for a month, to hear the tracks I knew and loved hashed up in a different way. Speaking of G-Stone, Good call on Urbs. Love that lot... big fan of K&D etc. Saw them at Big Chill in 2007 - have you been? I'm looking forward to Bonobo now you mention it, totally agree with what you say about spinning new angles. For instance, take one of my favourite tracks by Scuba: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAIK-gIC6VM - now switch it up and rearrange it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8WFJXDI_2Q and you've pretty much got a better track. It's incredible what artists can do to their own music. Oh, started listening to Lovage :) didn't realise it was Dan the Automator's moniker's moniker! and the same as the Handsome Boy lot. Istanbul - nice! Ohhh, you may have heard of a guy..

Hey, how was NY? "Christmas was pleasant and subdued, with the occasional dull company." So true. Submotion Orchestra - I was going to see them as Tropics was playing (the soundtrack to your summer 2012 - my Spring/Summer 2011, and will be my 2012 too - thank me later). I didn't though. They're quite an interesting outfit. Kind of dubstep jazz. Oh, that reminds me. (God I love giving you all these niche artists:)) The weirdest jazz I ever heard is a particular album by Wax Poetic (you've probably heard his and Norah Jones' Angels/the Thievery Corporation remix) - it's called Istanbul. Lemme know whatcha think. Revisiting Air's Moon Safari right now... An album you really need to give time to for how immensely lush, sexy and downbeat it is: Suzuki by Tosca. I used to love Tosca. I still think they're absolutely wicked. Finally, on the subject of Yagya, if/when you are digging that sound, check out bvdub if you haven't already, and also his collab EP with ASC (a favourite of mine atm).
