tell me your secrets about working festivals abroad, did you always work in english speaking countries? is it just a matter of being ridiculously organised? trying to work out plans for next year

you totally should! my dad took me on trips there a lot when i was younger; bulgaria, hungary, slovenia. i went to russia last year for a little while, but not long enough to really experience anything apart from cold and hunger and alienation. i went back to croatia last year for the 4th time, & bosnia too, and it was so beautiful and perfect and i think i want to live there one day, just for a year or so. i volunteer as a classroom assistant for a charity helping asylum seekers to learn english, and so many of them are albanian or lithuanian and it makes me itch to see these countries that i only have a small grasp of at the moment. speaking to a serbian guy about bosnia and he said 'a lot of things you can only explain by saying "...it's bosnia!" ' i think that can be applied to a lot of eastern europe, or anywhere quite different to home. my dad went to albania recently and was full of odd anecdotes, i think i'd enjoy exploring and trying to understand it. do it and tell me stories

no. you tell me how to afford 6 months of festivals in america immediately followed by an annoying amount of shows in aus. p.s. just looked at your tumblr, think i'm going to arctangent! p.p.s. just looked at your blog a bit more, do you mostly volunteer for your ticket at festivals? i've done so in the past and enjoyed it but since i've been working i've just bought tickets to make sure i can see all the bands i want to. there are some good schemes at bigger fests though where for every hour bar work you do, your hourly wage is donated to chairty (+free ticket). think it would work well for times when there are only a few bands i want to see/can't justify/afford a ticket, but i'm still paranoid about being so unlucky that i'd still have to miss my favourites. last time i paid someone to swap shifts because i couldn't face missing some acts, which sort of defeats the whole point.. essay. hope you're good!

wild, lucky you! how long have you been travelling for? i'm probably not much use as you're already there, and i hardly recognised anyone on the bill. i'd probably see wild nothing because they're swell guys, st vincent and grizzly bear. you might like patrick wolf? or you might not haha. he definitely puts on a show. sorry i'm no help - crazy amount of bands though, you're bound to find something good (:

its pretty hard to explain. just be ready for lots of extreme heat and humidity, or it will be extremely hot and dry, which just makes it really dusty. be ready to have dirt all in your mouth unless you put a bandanna over your mouth while walking to and from centeroo. its a great time, a lot of people cant handle the heat and will just complain and ruin the time, so make sure you and your group can handle it!
