Yes, sounds like a blasphemy, haha. But I never complain about too little space on my phone card.

No. It's an old habit developed back in time when I used to have 4GB hard drive.

It's not anywhere near perfectly accurate but it still sounds a lot better than the clipped recording.

Cassandra-Leo
Not necessarily. It depends how clipped the recording is but it's possible to recover 10 dB or more.

You have to lower the volume before clip fixing it. The process of clip fixing will restore additional dynamic range beyond what was clipped.

I'm not sure what you're asking? Clip Fix overcompensates in some cases for clipping so levelling out an unevenly clipped recording will still allow it to restore dynamic range in a lot of cases. But it doesn't have much effect on recordings to which other forms of dynamic range compression were applied.

Yep. If the clipping isn't strictly horizontal it may be possible to de-clip it by using the hard limiter function to make the clipping horizontal, but if it's not clipped at all then there's probably nothing that can be done to improve it.

If it's clipped then you can use a filter designed to repair clipping. Here is a guide to Audacity's Clip Fix filter. There is another program called Perfect Declipper which apparently gets even better results but I haven't played around with it much yet. If it's not clipped then there is pretty much no reliable way I'm aware of to restore much lost dynamic range. Clip fix will still recover a small amount but it probably won't be an audible difference.

I'll do that man. I'm trying to wade through their discography, but they have so many albums that get a lot of praise that it's difficult to know where I should go to next. So far I've loved Soundtracks for the Blind and Annihilator.
