Hey Martin. Blimey, just looked in here and realised it's been about 7 years since the whole GIO thing took over from Summer Of Song (which I loved). I do wish they could recapture that vibe again somehow...

Hi martinb9999! I saw that you have a pretty good music taste and thought that you'd maybe like our music as well. We are three girls from the forests of Sweden and we are going to record our very first album in Woodstock this summer! We would love if you checked out this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc_SKuEZm0o ! Let us know what you think (it's much appreciated) by commenting the video, and also check out our cover of 'Kathy's Song' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44kjqZUC5PU that we got the chance to play live for Paul Simon! Love, [url=http://www.facebook.com/VIDARmusic]VIDAR[/url]

Martin re Carol Kydd that is incredible! What a brillaint thing. Not sure I agree with you about U2 but only getting the chance to dip into it. I am not a massive fan though but quite like it so far. I see you have been giving Working On A Dream a good listen.

New u2 album: not very good. Lots of semi-interesting backing tracks wandering in search of lead vocals that's better than the placeholder noodling that's on the album. Oh, and one track that's the spit of Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel.

Hope so Martin - thgis things are never easy. I ticked off in the first few weeks of this year QA, Structural Engineers Registration and Instituion of Civil Engineers Training Scheme - not fun but out of the way. Surprised they did not play Billy Bragg but the bench mark / watershed for all that was the Because The Night week, cannot remember the theme was it great singles or 1978 or something no matter but EVERY blogger said yup . Sometimes I just think it is because they can (or can chose not to more accurately)!!

Martin - you seem to be a musician! Me too. This 'key change' thing has befuddled some... I originally too it to be a 'hard' key change they were looking for. I have accepted what you say, though, and remember my old music lessons... It can indeed be defined a bit broader than that. Hope you like my suggestions on the blog.

Glad to hear you liked Takk--I had forgotten all about these guys...do spread the word! I don't think we'll ever hear Sigur Ros on GIO,tho'.

nah, now I've got the script set up, it's a 2 minute job. If I get time (ie if I'm allowed the time by the family between now & 4th Jan), I'll chuck together a proper database driven thingy for themes & tracks which means you can query just how often Morrissey has been played. I'm sure Jim could do it too.

New discovery: [artist]Sigur Rós[/artist] (in their pre-pop, more ambient phase of [album artist=sigur ros]Takk[/album]). Props to [user]DFromCanada[/user] for that.

Hmm I didn't appear to have any [artist]Cranberries[/artist] in my library (except for the excellent [track artist=cranberries]Yeats' Grave[/track] from the Yeats tribute compilation). Fixed now.

Preparing for an 80s party by perusing iTMS. Surprising how many iconic tracks I *didn't* have, despite my near 48hrs long 80s playlist.

25k tracks barrier broken yesterday - the historic track being [artist]The Blues Brothers[/artist] [track artist=The Blues Brothers]Messing With the Kid[/track]; in the 929 days since signing up, that's very marginally short of 27 tracks a day.

Upcoming release: the soundtrack to Long Way Down: http://womadshop.com/index.lasso?geo=GB&id=cdrw149 but you can get quite a bit of it already on iTMS. Case in point: [artist]Geoffrey Oryema[/artist].

It's probably obvious, but I'm loving the Imaginary Village album. And you can download a samplepack from http://realworldremixed.com for your Garageband pleasure. Which is what I did.

Got Lennon? iTMS has, and having just bought Milk & Honey, it's surprising how many tracks I knew really well, despite never owning a copy (even pirated). Must have been Matt's that I remember listening to... Oh, and bought some Divine Comedy because (a) Father Ted (b) H2G2 and (c) Jem. All nicely visible on the auld iTMS feed: http://www.easyweb.co.uk/aggregator/sources/13

Bumped into Paul Weller last night at my hotel in Newcastle. Him bouncing out of a post coach, presumably post gig. He looked chipper, and was happy to nod and awright mate? passers by.
