Eliza Doolittle? Pixie Lott? The Saturdays? Are you trying to get in touch with your inner teenage girl?

Yeah, I didn't want to mention Cast. I assumed it was some kind of weird Scouse ritual.

Slightly regretting not hanging around for Blue Roses gig after hearing http://www.last.fm/music/Hannah+Peel on Marc Riley last night - who was also playing that night. Absolutely wonderful (and featured Laura Groves too).

Not really sure about the Dangerfield album. A sterling effort, ambitious and all that, but somehow it's all a bit nice and clean. Having said that, I don't know that anyone quite manages to pull off that Nilsson thing, though many have tried. I will persevere, however... Avi Buffalo. Worth getting the album?

How interesting. Never got on with the Guillemots - the whiff of wacky hangs around them for me - but both songs I've heard from his solo effort sounded really good. I shall investigate, ta!

See you're discovering the joys of Laura Marling. First album did nothing for me but this one is something else. Incredible. So. Your gig list. You're going to ATP two weekends in a row??? Slow Club are rubbish btw. You do know that, right? Ah, but Bonnie Prince Billy in a cathedral. Now that's MY kind of gig.

Yeah, surprisingly affected by his death. And it's always a good excuse to crack out the Big Star. Probably my favourite band behind Beatles and Bowie.

So. The new Midlake. I can't stop listening to it, but at the same time, it's not leaving that much of an impression on me. What do you think? Any Chippy news? Exciting times, these, aren't they, and I didn't think I'd be saying that so soon into the year!

Haha, "our daughter is out" sounds like she is clubbing.. she is 7 and staying with her grandma :-)

Ah right.. I have found it by turns desperately affecting and quite boring, depending on my mood; it's worth having a look at the liners too, quite pretty: http://www.antlersmusic.com/linernotes.pdf Our daughter is out tonight so it's Warp boxsets and wherever they lead, played loud whilst drinking gin.. All good :-)

thanks for your reply which i only just saw for some weird reason. of course the bottom line is that his attitude towards himself is questionable, i agree with you on that. but the way he treats himself is something he has to deal with himself, the way he treats is audience is directly affecting his success (or lack of). i would've bought a cd and not only supported him by coming to the show (and wasting my bat for lashes-ticket) but through that as well. but his behavior made that impossible. and let's face it, if he alienates more fans like this, it just means even less people will be showing up to his shows and buying his stuff. he has to grow up, an audience finds appreciating art the artist claims is shit only so entertaining.

so i went to see eitzel, but while he might need the support, i am not sure he deserves it. this could've been great, in fact, it had moments of greatness, but i had to shout "respect your audience" towards the end, which seemed to resonate somewhat, with marc cappelle for sure, and even with eitzel who responded "i do respect my audience, but i wish some fuckers would just leave", which i would say is mainly his misunderstanding of the situation he's in. i'd be interested to read your thoughts when you see him in manchester. thanks.

so tell me, should i go see mark eitzel or bat for lashes (i have a ticket for bat for lashes, which i bought when the show was supposed to be in may, it has now been rescheduled and clashes with eitzel sings american music club)?

Pastels? MBV? Woodentops? Are you having a C86 day or something? Please say you do and that you're sat there wearing an Oxfam cardigan and a lonely wistful look. Or do mid/late 80s indie sounds inspire you to create spooky supernatural episodic drama?

How was ATP and its underwhelming line up? Bet it was a hoot anyhow. Apols for relative radio silence, Kieran is working me like a slave to get this frikking thing into ITV so that we can get the inevitable rejection.

Sounds worth the investigation, even if only to collect artists containing the words "blue" and "roses" in their name - cheers for the tip :)

Glad you've got into her. Isn't it amazing? Reminds me of a young Kate Bush and that's a mighty compliment in my book. I have literally listened to nothing else all week. I have to stop or I'm going to ruin the experience by overplaying her.

I think Dubstar and Tanita Tikaram would have a fight on their hands for worst lyrics of all time. But I reckon Tanita might just edge it: "Cup of tea, take time to think, yeah Time to risk a life, a life, a life Sweet and handsome Soft and porky..."

I just heard School of 7 Bells on radio this morning and now you've said the dreaded D word (Dubstar), I can't take them seriously. I think Not So Manic Now is in my top 10 worst songs of all time. 'I was making myself the usual cup of tea when the doorbell STRANGELY RANG'...Argh!

Count me out of Icelandic MOR! Meanwhile, School of 7 Bells - worth buying? And do you own any The National, I'm sure you're a fan. Cos I really like their track on the Dark Was the Night comp. And HOW good is that Sufjan song?

Mmm, she's a bit cutesy Icelandic MOR for my liking. I mean, I might go along just to admire your extraordinary beauty, but I'm not sure that's the best reason to go. Incidentally, are Chris and James still actually alive?
