For me the Sammet vocals are only a short minus amidst the great singers that are there. And I, too, like his voice somewhat, and I think his vibrato is over the top but not too bad. In Quest For and The Glory of Rome were on that list because those are the only songs I can think Sammet sings only a very little or not at all.

Not any of the vocals? ;( Too bad... the cast on The Metal Opera are almost like my favorite singers list! :D I need to admit that I stalked your list and only noticed you listening to Prelude and Avantasia, the song. In my mind Avantasia is the absolute WORST song on the pair of albums! It's that radio friendly "hit song" closest to what Tobi does nowadays, and even full of Tobi's ridiculous vibrato singing. If you're not fond of listening to the whole story at once, just go with at least three of the following songs: Reach Out for the Light, Farewell, The Glory of Rome, Sign of the Cross, The Tower, The Seven Angels, In Quest For, The Final Sacrifice, Into the Unknown. :P

Jorn is like new Dave Coverdale, except for better than Coverdale was/is. :D I love his vocals. ^^ And he can sing whatever someone writes to him, even some high-pitched stuff. Eclectic and VERY raspy and ballsy and plain awesome. Me likes. :) And of course Nightwish is only what Hietala is known of nowadays. His main project is and has always been a band called Tarot. :) Possibly the first Finnish heavy metal band that was "popular" abroad.

The point is that The Metal Operas are way better and I don't even consider newer records being that Avantasia anymore. The Metal Operas had their own power metal style and a story mainly happening in another dimension. :P They're clearly concept albums you should listen to as a whole. The newer ones are that basic AOR rock Sammet likes to compose these days, and they don't have anything to do with that Avantasia world and characters anymore. I assumed you knew this much already, had checked Wikipedia or something, but now I assumed you haven't. :P Just listen to The Metal Opera albums and blow your mind, I say! :D I'm afraid I don't know anything about JP though. :/ I haven't listened to Charon. Northern Kings is kinda cash-in project if you ask me; they mainly haven't beaten the original songs, although I have to admit those singers in the project are great. :) Hietala of course one of the very best. :P

They are Tobias' music and Tobias of course sings the most on them as well, almost on every song. Only that those aren't commercial rock Avantasia (has text 'Tobias Sammet's Avantasia' on the covers) but something else (only reads 'Avantasia' on the covers). :P And yeah, whenever anyone states anything about music, it's all about opinions. I just can't bother to add "in my opinion..." or such phrase there because I think it should be clear for others that whenever I say whatever, like that The Metal Operas are far more better than the newer ones, I cannot state that as a fact; it's always an opinion.

Yeah, Khan is exceptional as he doesn't sound like a metal singer at all, yet delivers with his personal pleasant style. At times he comes close to Queensrÿche's Geoff Tate's interpretation in Operation: Mindcrime even. :) Khan has pretty much his own style though, and I can understand why many consider him being the best. Still, I think The Metal Operas have many awesome singers (many in my opinion better than Khan :P). Michael Kiske, Rob Rock, Oliver Hartmann, André Matos, David DeFeis, Sharon den Adel etc. And, well, I'm not super unknowledgeable about Kamelot! ;P I like them.

Well, in my opinion, they are certainly more epic than Kamelot. :P Huge works. And huuuge vocalists (not that Kahn isn't).

I really don't consider Twisted Mind at least being Avantasia style... Luckily I heard Tobias mentioning The Scarecrow isn't going to be in the footsteps of The Metal Operas, so I could even digest the album. The Metal Operas are more like Kamelot: epic "power metal", not some commercial rock music. I don't even consider this Tobias Sammet's Avantasia the same supergroup as Avantasia was. The theme and music are completely different.

Avantasia songs similar to The Scarecrow, say? Well I think there really aren't. I'd listen to the whole The Metal Opera albums to blow my mind if I was you. :) Especially the song The Seven Angels. Other "epics" at least are The Tower, The Wicked Symphony and Stargazers, although none of those really resemble The Scarecrow... almost all songs on the original The Metal Opera albums are as good as The Scarecrow though. :P
