Hello mate! So far so good! University is closing to its end, work's fine, not much events lately though. Last event was Sabaton's Heroes on Tour Europe 2015. It was great. Looking forward for Blind Guardian (in a month) and Judas Priest + Helloween at the end of June. What about you?

I saw Scorpions for 3rd time on December... many cool concerts here I was not able to visit - Iced Earth, Amorphis, Amon Amarth etc. :( I feel so bad I've been missing these great events but I have almost no team, struggling with my 2 masters and working. I'm planning to see Iron Maiden and Sabaton next month :)

Yeah, it was familar to me somehow, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was... Well, I chose my avatar because of how our german chancellor merkel and her party reacted on the NSA thing and ties with the german intelligence service: We didn't know about this, the net is "new" for us... well, "new" since the 80´s/early 90´s to us citizens I guess... Sends the minister of internal affairs to the NSA, he got declassified documents to see and claimed: "The NSA promised us to comply to german rights and the NSA affair is hereby terminated" I mean, do politicians really think we are that plain stupid ?

Yeah, I understand, I'm really happy that I bought Ipod shuffle a few days ago - now I'm able to listen to music all day long :) cause I usually spend no more than a couple of hours on my laptop.

Well, today I'm on "float" I'm not sure if I will work or no. I hope not :D Cause I want to check some new albums. And what about you? Are you enjoying your summer so far? And where do you live in US? Cause I'm in Baltimore, MD for the whole summer!

Yeah, DT always have songs from every album, but their discography is phenomenal. They don't have "hits", tracks that everyone wants to see every show, except perhaps Monochromatic Stains and Misery's Crown. All of DT's songs are good, no exceptions. Few bands can keep this up for 20 years.

For god's sake they have 10 studio albums. They naturally focus on promoting the new album and there's no such thing as shunning their old stuff. When they played a show near me last year they played The Hive and Swim. They don't play songs from Lunar Strain very often but it's not unusual for them to play a few songs from Colony, or a song from The Jester Race. They realize some people prefer their classic albums but I think there aren't many "oldschool" fans like you left. Most people appreciate both In Flames eras.

Well what do you expect, you didn't respond to my comment in a respectful way, don't expect me to do it. Yes, they tried to appeal to the nu metal fans, that's obvious when they toured together with Slipknot and Anders got Jonathan Davies-like beard and dreads. This used to bother me too, and I used to have the same opinion as you, but truth is, you're not right and In Flames do not deserve that kind of attitude. Also, they never abandoned their core sound. Listen to "Deliver Us" - that solo could've been on Whoracle easily. "Delights and Angers" has the same acoustic breakdowns they've had on all of their oldschool stuff. The opening riff of "A New Dawn" sounds like a riff off Clayman. Sure, Anders doesn't scream anymore, especially on the latest album, but I think his singing has improved significantly.

Only Soundtrack to your Escape and parts of Come Clarity sound like a disgrace to me. Seriously, how long do you think they could keep releasing albums with the same formula? If they did they wouldn't be where they are now - popular across the world, with a solid fanbase, having their own studio and label and 10 albums behind their backs, most of which solid. And I really think some of you guys who hate on new In Flames just miss the point of the band's music. Why the hell listen to In Flames at all if you want to listen to something that's heavy? Plenty of better bands. In Flames have always been about melody and catchiness. Even their early stuff, The Jester Race has little to no heaviness.

As far as popularization goes they deserve the credit. Natural Born Chaos was the second most successful mdm album after Clayman. And just like In Flames, Soilwork embraced the "American" sound and attacked the US music scene and succeeded, thus being an important influence to it. As for IF and the MDM sound I believe I wasn't clear enough, I meant to say "death metal" was never their strength, because what they did over time is remove those elements, while still retaining the core of their sound. Everything that made them good is still there. The riffs are still there, even though they are utilized in a slightly different way, the acoustic breakdowns are still there, the Maiden-esque solos are still there too.

Hey man. Not really. Been more into the classic stuff lately. 70's-90's. Back when gas cost less than a dollar, 'reality tv' was nothing more than a contradiction of terms, September 11 was just another day on the calender and hindus were just the cute funny people making your donuts...or selling you slurpies....or driving the cab - I don't know where I'm going with this...haha

Agreed with everything you said. I'm just wondering, do Korn actually know any theory themselves? I vaguely remember seeing a video of them playing with Steve Vai (funnily enough) and being completely out of their depth. I haven't looked at any of Trash's posts so perhaps he mentioned this video, given that he loves mentioning Korn and also apparently quoted Vai during the Death discussion.

Theory's pretty helpful for when you want to get your musical ideas across to other people, but as far as the writing side of it goes I don't think it's entirely necessary for most styles of music.

lol, where does the "you must end on the root note!!!1!" thing come from, anyway? I haven't met a single person save for Trash who actually has an issue with it, even people who were well-versed in theory. You'd think applying arbitrary and useless rules like that would be counter-productive to creating music from the heart instead of the brain (and as we all know, doing the latter results in music that is listenable but completely bland... like Avril Lavigne), but y'know... he's a robot, he doesn't "get" emotions.

My avatar feels upset now that you've called him a little bitch guy. Look at how sad he is! Anyway, I've played Oblivion, don't think I ever did any Fighter's Guild stuff so I'm pretty sure I haven't seen the dude you're talking about. I'm really out of touch with video games right now - hell, I haven't even played Skyrim yet.
