I will check both of these out. Been a bit overloaded by Bowie and Tom Waits recently, but will attempt to dig out some recommendations of new stuff…

Just checking out the Matt Berry album and thought it'd be your kind of thing - see you've already got there!

Cheers! Occasionally wondering what I've gotten myself into, but I'm looking forward to all the musical knowledge I'll have by the end of it - only another 6 months to go!

haha! nice! Have made a note - gonna have to wait for a couple of months before I can properly appreciate it though, I'm listening to The Beatles as part of a bonkers project I set myself… http://thealbumsproject.blogspot.com/

Yeah Emeralds is good stuff. The new album is way more accessible than their previous releases – they've already got a seemingly unending series of CD-Rs, solo projects and collaborations released, and they're only in their early 20s! JD Emmanuel sounds interesting, looks like there was a vinyl re-master and re-press recently on Important Records and they've done a new set of mp3s too. Will investigate…

Yeah I should have gotten on here earlier I suppose, but I've only just got my library standardised - the plays on here are a bit skewed as a result. Yep had a massive King Crimson binge a couple of years back, even got hold of Bill Bruford's autobiography (great read if you're on a prog kick). Hmm, try and check out Emeralds and also Mark McGuire (their guitarist). The albums they each released in 2010 are incredible, they're playing in May as well, which i'm ridiculously excited about.

Heh - didn't say you didn't listen to any classical - just that I didn't see it. ;) But - wanted to comment on the vinyl for classical stuff... I'm kinda iffy on going that route... Classical tends to be better on CD because of the physical limitations of vinyl (you can only make a groove so wide). And besides, with inexpensive labels like Naxos, and good used CD stores they are relatively easy to come by. But - there is a place for classical on vinyl - especially rare and unusual stuff... As for metal: I pull out the old school stuff occasionally: Kiss, Ozzy, Rush, AC/DC...but it's lower on the play list so you didn't see it. Not into most of the current stuff... Although someone recently got me interested in some Norwegian and German metal...
