sorry for the late response, i never check my shoutbox thing. I have to say that i really believe that any true fan of the black keys, whether or not immediately or eventually, will realize that Brothers was the record the keys should be releasing at this point in their career. I definitely was shocked the first time i heard it, but at the end of the day, their songwriting hasn't been this tight since rubber factory. Attack & release was definitely great, i just sort of felt that it had more style than substance, particularly towards the end of the record. This is not to say that Brothers wouldn't have benefited from cutting a few tracks, but i think that it still doesnt have any skippable songs. My one and only complaint about Brothers is that i wish they would've turned the volume up more. I like that Dan brought out his falsetto, I like how they discovered T Rex, and i like the vintage sound they brought back to the recording process. Theres a lot to be loved in brothers. find it.

i'm pumped for you, man. i'd listen right now so i could give some actual constructive feedback, but minus the bear's new record just leaked, so i have that on repeat right now. good luck with the record though.

okay. i didn't mean anything negative by it whatsoever, i was just ironically commenting on the three listeners by calling it "mainstream"

Ooh I thought I should tell you this... remember I said I had recently lost one of my best friends somehow? Well, during my time without him the past couple weeks, I became more aware of certain problems (sin problems) I had, that I wasn't aware of before. Instead of turning away from God, I pursued Him more and dealt with the problems. The increased closeness to Him would have been enough for me. But now, He has given my friend back to me, too. Against all the odds, the friendship has been officially restored today! And I am enjoying even sweeter fellowship with Christ than before. I'm not making any of this up. This is real proof of what happens if you remain faithful to God in hard times. Good results. :)

I appreciate that you’ve been listening. But I’m compelled by love 2 keep telling u the truth. & I think u should refresh ur memory what 2 Pe. 2:21 says. ||This is the way it is with everything: If u don’t understand what ur reading, it sounds like foolishness. It doesn’t matter what book ur reading for that 2 be true. If u try to read a book in a totally foreign language, it's gonna look like jibberish to u without an interpreter. Naturally. But God will teach those who seek understanding, so they can know what His Word means. It’s not impossible. But u have 2 be genuinely seeking Him 2 find it. (Jam. 1:2-8) As for this so-called “torturing”, God is holy. He isn't the least bit evil. Every action He does is justified. U are supposed 2 endure hardship as discipline.(Heb.12:7) God calls ppl who resist it “fools”. (Prov. 1:7). Jesus said: “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.” || His love is SO much deeper than you think it is, Desi! (read Eph 3:17-19)

Had you forgotten that he was greatly REWARDED for his determination? ;) "...the LORD made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before." and again it says, "The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the first." (look in Job 42) Later in the Bible it says, "As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy." Put simply, giving up profits you nothing. Did you see that? Giving up profits you nothing. It may make you feel sorta good, just 'cos the sinful nature loves to hold a grudge whether the grudge is justified or not. But in reality you're gaining nothing of true value. You could have such an amazing life if you turn back to God. You could have all the guilt of your past wiped clean so you can start over. (1 Jn 1:9) He really does bless his faithful ones. & He accepts prodigal sons (like you) too. :)

thanks...na, it was the wav track - just slight clipping from the original sample (it came from cassette originally). you know, i thought the same thing about band/studio time, but i dont have the time to invest in a band, or the money to invest in studio time - so as frustrated as i get with my recording habits, i still feel its better for me to have complete control, and not have to pay exorbitant fees...as time consuming as it currently is, i like to make everything myself. :)

nice. yeah, i think you got the right idea, you just have to "master your processes" i've been using this same "pc" recording style for years now and still am just figuring out stuff to make it sound better....imma fire up my other pc (music maker haha) and send you a link to download a track...on my music page under "i'm only in it for..." its "Go Ahead Miles" (my "tribute" to miles davis and john mclaughlin) but my buddy raps and he wanted some beats, and liked that one in particular. he asked me to remix for him, so i obliged :) this is what the link will be

i also have some cool plugins from other music apps, like cakewalk, native instruments, battery3, etc that help. i am just learning how to "spread" the sound of the track to the output. this will aid me even more in my move to "home-made" hi-fidelity recording. i will send you a link later on to two tracks (virtually the same) but one is a remix....that i did first discovering this "spread" capability. the difference in quality between the remix and the original is absurd and all because of one simple thing i never figured out....until recently. LOL. my next track, which i pretty much finished writing last night will hopefully make great use of this new mixing method..... :)

continued.....after i normalize the individual track, i will apply a slight reverb (if i dont it sounds like i recorded the track in a fishbowl for some reason LOL) - applied using the Sony Audio Studio (will refer to as "SAS") ..and also EQ or any other desired effects. this happens for each recorded piece of a song. once this has been done to all parts (drums, bass, guitar, etc), i use SAS to mix them all together. its really tedious compared to my "old way" of doing things. the other way i would just play the drums, swap the cassette, play the bass along to my drums, swap the tape, play the guitar to the bass&drums, etc etc. where it used to take me an hour to record a 5 minute track, it now takes me days of planning, programming the midi drums (using tuxguitar and switch sound converter to accomplish that electronically), and effectively playing it all proper in a few takes as not to get frustrated. LOL

well, i think its more your mixing levels...what do you use to mix the drums/bass/guitars/vocals? do you use the old school "cassette dub"? do you use some kind of pc software? the way i used to record (for all of "the spaces between words") was dual tape deck with overdub capabilities...still have and still use from time to time. my more recent stuff has become a bit more intricate, but much better sounding. what i do now is mic my amp with a 2ch mixer that goes to the mic input of the pc....record live sound using Sony Audio Studio (for each piece...guitars, basses, etc) drums i do electronically for the most part now - as having a drumset in a small apartment is not do-able LOL. but i take each recorded piece, drums, guitars, bass, etc and "clean them up." i also have a shitty mic. I use Adobe Audition to capture the "noise" profile (white noise/background noise etc) and remove it from the track. also use audition for volume adjustments and manual normalization of "volume spikes..

I am moved in spirit and praying for you.... I do want to make at least one more comment about something you said in your explanation. You said that you're starting to doubt God's existence just b'cos you're still alive. I think what you've gotten is grace! You know what grace is? UNDESERVED favor. :) Every human being has been given some degree of it..--- We rarely understand why hurtful things happen. There are a lot of mysteries in life; God has the answers, but you have to keep listening to him in order to hear them. The best way to get thru hard times is to hold onto God more than ever, not to give up or turn against him. I have no doubt that he wants you to give your heart back. Ever read the story of the prodigal son? fyi, God promises to wipe away the tears of every one who trusts in Jesus, when he brings them to heaven.--- It's not like he just "kicks" you for sport. He disciplines you for your own good. But it'll only have a good outcome 4 u if you submit to him.

I'm very sorry you lost your girlfriend and that all those other things happened. :( Just last Sunday, I lost my best friend in a big awful misunderstanding. I'm grieving as if he'd died. I questioned why God let this happen. And He gave me answers in his Word: ".....though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine...." " ...The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul." I realized I was giving the guy more of my attention than I was giving to God. And God deserves it more. So this is the reaction I'm trying to have: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time." There's a chance things will be made right again. Not just for me, for you too. Just go back 2 God, he'll give you another chance.
