Hi scruffian! I saw that you have a pretty good music taste and thought that you'd maybe like our music as well. We are three girls from the forests of Sweden and we are going to record our very first album in Woodstock this summer! We would love if you checked out this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc_SKuEZm0o ! Let us know what you think (it's much appreciated) by commenting the video, and also check out our cover of 'Kathy's Song' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44kjqZUC5PU that we got the chance to play live for Paul Simon! Love, VIDAR

Listening to Jessica Pratt's eponymous album. First impression is a vocal mix of early Joni Mitchell and Joanna Newsom. Not listened to enough to figure her out medlodically yet, but worth a listen I think.

Hey Ben, have you heard of Cold Specks? She's a Canadian, but she live in London. Released her debut album last year. I just downloaded it yesterday. It's worth a listen. It's called I Predict a Graceful Expulsion.

Give this a listen. It's on Martha Wainwright's new album, but it was written in 2009 by her mother, Kate McGarrigle, a couple of weeks before she dies of cancer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=V4di1pbzveQ#! You might prefer the stripped down-ness of McGarrigle's original, which is also on You Tube, but which features about a minute of unintelligible mumbling.... which is allowable, I suppose, since she was dying of cancer at the time.

Have you seen The Avett Brothers live before? I've seen them a few times. Years ago they used to play at this tiny bluegrass, folk, country festival "Great Blue Heron" that I go to. They were great. This one year they did a bunch of Johnny Cash covers.

Hey Ben, have you checked out M Shanghai String Band... listening to their album The Mapmaker's Daughter lately - seems like it would be up your street...

Doesn't matter. The stuff you've listened to a lot is stuff I already know, for the most part. But this month I was in an experimental mood, so I used my eMusic downloads for artists I've never even heard of. Which is where your radio came in handy.

Picking up music recommendations from your playlist this week. Liking the Peggy Honeywell so far, but the Larkin Grimm's a bit weird so far, although it may grow on me. I have heard weirder.

Well, Night After Night, Sophia and Rest In Bed are my favourites at the moment, but I get addicted to her after more listening...for example, first two albums I had to listen for some time to get really into them, and now I can't stop...I think that I didn't have someone like her (favourite artist) in a long time, I was always listening to some artists, and then stop at one moment, but I think I could listen to her forever...

Hey Ben - check out Little Miss Higgins (last album Across The Plains). Very old-fashioned for a 20-something from out West in Canada, but one or two of the tracks on the album are pretty good. Also, check out The Velocity of Saul at the Time of his conversion, from Okkervil River's Down the River of Golden Dreams album. Patchy album, but a good song.

I'm liking it a lot - it's been rattling around my head - a good sign. I like his plaintive voice. I was thinking of giving Ys another listen recently - I've only played it 10x or so. Picked up Natalie's dad's guitar at the weekend (an old Yamaha FG-340 - I'm going to try to learn right handed, but it does feel very odd.

Hey Ben - check out this Joanna Newsom interview - references some interesting music to check out (banjo and close vocal harmony from the 50s, I KNOW you're going to want to check that one out). http://www.economist.com/blogs/prospero/2011/01/tugging_harp_strings

Hi, cheers for the friend request. Loving the music, you remind me of the Incredible String Band or Nick Drake. Whereabouts in the UK are ya from?
