Yeah, I was devastated when I heard the news, too. At least we'll always have his music.

Danny was one of the most underrated talents in rock history, may he rest in peace. The "Live in Boston" performances with Kirwan and Green trading off lead guitar lines with each other is phenomenal, some of the best live material I've ever heard by any band ever. Peter Green is my favorite guitarist of all time by the way.

Yeah, there are so many underrated gems in the Mac's discography. In my opinion their most underrated album is "Future Games", which is my second favorite behind the immortal "Then Play On." I used to be pretty snobbish and was biased against the Buckingham/Nicks era, but I've come to absolutely love that era of their music. Your library is very impressive and eclectic. Anyway, have a great weekend!

I actually think R.E.M. really started to sink when Bill Berry left the group, after Monster. I think "Out of Time" was their biggest album, but if you take a look at Automatic, you'll see that it's a very beautiful record. I know everybody hurts was their biggest hit and all, but that's actually my least favorite song off that record. Nightswimming, Sweetness Follows, etc.. are so good, in an introspective, mid 90's kind of way. More than a commercial album, I always saw Automatic more as a more challenging art record. But very rewarding.

Definitely. That was spot on when you recommended Eddie Hazel. I love a song of theirs called "I'll stay" it has some killer guitar work, like a second little wing in a way. I see you've been listening to early R.E.M. Automatic for the People will always be my favorite record of theirs.. What's your take on their earlier stuff, like fables and murmur?

Hey man! Good to hear from you! Funkadelic is such a badass band, especially with Eddie Hazel. Remember when you recommended them to me back in 2012? Awesome stuff... Now you're listening to Standin' Here Tremblin', one of my favorite Muddy Waters songs.. Love his early acoustic stuff as much as his electric Chicago side!

Hey man, what's going on? I'm also disliking this version of last.fm, especially because they removed all possibilities for plug-ins (artist of the month, pie charts, artist graphs, normalisr, band logos, etc). Took me quite a bit of effort and time to build those up, now they are lost.... That really sucks. :P What are you disliking about the new version?

haha, right, i was just bored and felt the need something really stupid ;) anyway i see a red line in taste-o-meter, with just a bunch of artists on my side, so apparently i'm doing good in rebuilding it :) have a nice time

Hi Colin, no i saw Thin Lizzy at Sheffield City Hall in 1980 i think it was, Lizzy only supported Queen for a couple of months and only on the American part of the Day at The Races Tour in early 1977. Yes i knew Juve nicked County's shirts, ha ha, and yes i remember the days when Forest ruled, it was hell living in Notts if you supported anyone other than Forest in the late 1970s, lots of people jumped on their ' bandwagon ' at that time , where are they now?

Hi star! Yeah I'm listening to High N' Dry even as I type this... You know, you mentioned Brian Johnson, and I know where you're coming from, maybe when he's hitting the high notes, but to me this still sounds like Joe Elliot. :-) Maybe the vocals are a bit more strained (not to mentioned higher and more yelled), but still I can tell it's him. Then again, I think this was before Def Leppard hooked up with Mutt Lange so maybe the lack of overdubbed vocals makes this sound rawer... Yes, I agree, it's definitely a mix of on through the night and their later work... I'm really liking the energy in this... Even though it's got the hard-rocking feel to it, there are some parts and riffs which speak to where they were gonna go later... The guitar work has some parts (where it slows down a bit) that hint towards something more melodic.... But it still has that garage-y feeling to it. I'm definitely liking this dude, thanks for the heads up!

Hey man, what's been goin on? I see you've been listening to a lot of Leppard lately. My buddy recommended their first album (I think it's on through the night) because according to him, it rocks harder... I still like their poppier stuff too.... Hope you're doing well! I'm back at the message boards, hope to see you there!

Hi Colin. A "bit" different from Judas Priest, ha ha: I saved another lovely piece of music from the very old and analog days and added it to my "1984-Early Works"-album. One of my bleeding heart ones :) - Maybe you'll like it: http://www.lastfm.de/music/Peter+J.+Althammer/_/I+Miss+You+%5Bfeat.+Evelyn+Lange%5D

hi, well it's not the first time i've seen it, actually i've liked it for the same reason, probably because it's supposed to be a true story, (maybe few elements are fictional, i'didn't read the book) and being a rather indie movie despite the actors (young on the way to become famous), there's no overacting, plus the presence of W. Burroughs, and the locations (Portland) ;) take care

Thx. Me too, there's a lot of work in my cartography office here and so little time for music. But last week I bought an Epiphone Wilshire Pro 2010 Lim. Edition in Pelham green from a guy here in town: http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Designer/Wilshire-PRO.aspx (click on the green button). My first new guitar for more than 30 years. A very light guitar. And it sounds great. A real winner. I hope I'm able to refresh my playing with that lady. Cheers and have a good time

Hey star_shaped. Sorry for the ULTRA-late reply, I've been meaning to post on your wall for a few months now, but only now do I get around it. I did my homework and checked out Funkadelic's Eddie Hazel lead guitarist albums, and wow... you were right about the Hendrix comparisons. I've been focusing a bit on the self-titled album and his playing really reminds me of the stuff Jimi did with Buddy Miles. I don't think it's too far-fetched to think that Jimi could've ended up sounding somewhat like Funkadelic later on, being as he was stretching his musical palette to integrate more black music. In anycase, are you into Jazz? I've been checking out some of Freddie Hubbard's 70's stuff and I've found it to be really good, mind-expanding stuff. Check out this link if you have the chance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJsIIAWa__Q I also wanted to ask you, in regards to 21st century music, what kind of bands are you into? Take care man, and I'll try to be more prompt with my replies.

i've read that one of the best sounding vinyls is Led Zeppelin 2 (original pressing, Robert Ludwig "RL" mastered). it's supposed to sound fantastic. if you ever see a copy at a yard/garage/estate sale, get it! the seller may not know it's true value (to collectors). :D

funny that you mention that. i just recently started to collect vinyl, and there definitely is a BIG difference; so I started by getting most of my desert island discs (i'm just missing 3 now). i also got most of Bowie on vinyl. :)

i think it'd be different if more of the older crowd used lastfm, then you'd see a spike in a lot of the lesser known 60s and 70s groups. i was looking at some of the "Best of" lists from the 70s, and i seem to remember that "Fly Like An Eagle" was actually voted best album of it's year by, I wanna say, Rolling Stone magazine, (or Village Voice).
