Hey! I hope you got the thing I wrote for the KDVS zine in time. Is it possible to get some copies mailed up to Calgary? It would be really cool to see the zine in person! See any cool shows lately? Milk Music played here on Sunday and it was super good! Calvin Johnson is playing two shows here next week that I'm gonna go check out as well. I'm thinking of asking Broken Water if they wanted to come up to Calgary since I saw they are playing Total Fest in Missoula again (it's an eight hour drive so it's not terrible). That would be another cool show here if it can work for the band this time

Thanks, and good show to you as well! I downloaded and listen to it last Friday, jam after jam. I'm excited to see what you have planned for tomorrow. Calgary's been kind of a wasteland for shows lately but I've seen a couple of good things. I saw Prince in December which was awesome, and I saw Silver Mt. Zion last night. Other then that, just a bunch of local shows these past two months. There was a really fun one at this place called Tubby Dog (where you can get really crazy hot dogs). One of the bands from Vancouver was a new project from two former Puberty members called the Courtneys. They were really good and I think it may be something you like: http://thecourtneys.bandcamp.com/. You saw Dinosaur Jr! That's awesome, I missed them when they came here for Sled Island. Do you have any pictures? See any other shows? I also saw that Grass WIdow and the Raincoats are playing SF in March. Are you going to go?

Also, I noticed that Calling All Girls isn't around anymore? Do you not do it anymore, or can I just not read, haha

Yeah, they were so great! I talked to Raven after the show, she was so nice! I told her that my boyfriend's roommate had driven them back to San Fransisco from L.A. and she remember and also said, "hey I know you!", because he told them how how big of a fan I am. The Raincoats were amazing! Everyone was having so much fun! Gina Birch came up to me after because "it looked like I wanted an autograph but was to shy to come up" and I told her about how I flew up to from Calgary and about my radio show and she seemed so touched. She called Ana over and I talked to her a bit and got free pins and a signed copy of Odyshape out of it! BEST DAY! Marnie Stern was alright. Her drummer wasn't allowed into Canada due to a DUI in the States so they were a two piece. Her bassist played the drums for some songs but it was mostly guitar/bass which didn't give the songs the "punch" they have on records. I'm still happy I saw it though!

Hey! Guess what! I'm going to see the Raincoats/Grass Widow/Marnie Stern and No Joy a week from Friday in Toronto (all in the same night)! I'm so excited! How are Grass Widow live?

Yeah, they were great here too! I hope they come back! I posted some photos on my shows facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Off-Duty-Trip-on-CJSW-909FM/144596775590674. I have the WF ones on there, plus the other things I saw (except on Wednesday because I had no camera). Oh yay, that's great to hear! It would be on 7-8:30 here, which is perfect because that's usually when I'm chilling so it will be a perfect time to tune in (and no-wave next week, ahhh so good)! I'm update my blog with that link. I'll have to check out Animals and Men then, I also saw they were playing with Grass Widow. Oh man, Calvin Johnson is playing you're friend's house! That's so cool! Let me know how it is! As for here, nothing too interesting is happening. White Lung and Nu Sensae are coming back in two weeks which should be sweet! Last time Mish was sick and someone accidentally broke Andrea's pedal so they had to stop after five songs, so I hope this time is better!

Hey! I just saw two Wild Flag shows this weekend! They were amazing, best band I saw at Sled! I also got to talk to Mary Timony twice, Carrie and Janet! I think I scared Janet a bit, haha, but she was nice and so was Mary and Carrie. Ahhhh! I got some pictures of the show and I can send you a link to them once I get them up if you want :)

Ooh, that's exciting to hear! I imagine a Hunx/Shannon and the Clams show will be super fun to see! I have heard the new album, it's pretty fun. Not too many shows lined up. Going to the Pixies on Saturday and going to checkout WYRD Fest at the end of May which is just a festival of rad Canadian bands, http://weirdcanada.com/wyrd/. If you're interested in weird Canadian music you should check out the lineup and give some of those bands a try! Any other cool shows you've got lined up? White Lung/Nu Sensae are coming back here in July as well! Blockshot is sounding really good too. That's going to be a great show, for sure! Oh yeah, fundrasing time! Haha, yup, fundraising time is always fun and crazy! How did you guys do?

That list looks pretty sweet! Zach Hill! Oh you're lucky! I really like Brilliant Colors and I've been meaning to check out more Mirah material. I'll have to give the new Thao & Mirah album that comes out soon! Have a blast at the shows! Over in snowy Calgary, they just announced a few more names for Sled Island and The Sandwitches, Shannon and the Clams and Lee Ranaldo are coming! Still hoping I'll see Grass WIdow in that list though.

Yeah, I'm so stoked! They aren't announcing the full lineup and venues until May 1st, so I'll have to see where they'll be playing (hopefully it's somewhere smaller and hopefully they play multiple shows). The full lineup might not be up yet but it already looks awesome, Zola Jesus, Moon Duo, Parts and Labor, Hunx and His Punx (which hopefully will mean Shannon and the Clams too), one of the bands you recommended to me, Dreamdate and more! You did not tell me that, but that's awesome! What other bands are playing the KVDS fest? Good to hear the Pearly Dewdrops might be coming back! Let me know when it comes back!

Aw, that's a bummer, but I'm glad that your going to keep the blog going because it rules! And I'll be sure to check out that other show too! I'm planning on doing an all female show on Wednesday since International Woman's Day is on Tuesday as a tribute to the day and the blog will definitely come in handy when I'm trying to plan what to play. No I haven't heard that Fergus & Geronimo album but I'll be sure to check it out! Speaking of shows White Lung/Nu Sensae/B-Lines are coming here next week to play two shows (an 18+ one at a bar on Friday and an all ages one at a hot dog restaurant on Sunday) and I'm super stoked on both of them. I can't wait!

Sorry for the late reply, I was busy with school but super hard stuff has now passed, yay! I am so jealous that you get to see both Grass Widow and Wild Flag in a small little club! Ahhh! That show is going to be amazing! I wish I could be there! You gotta tell me all about it and show me those pictures you take! Maybe I can convince the people of Sled Island to bring GW and WF to Calgary for the festival. I can dream! Now that school is less busy I can finally gather some more reccommendations which I should be able to send to you sometime this week!

I'll link your show to my blog and give you a shout out too, one school becomes managable again! And I'll definitely take a look at your blog, thanks! :) I have listened to the new Corin Tucker album! I like it, it's different (which is to be expected, obviously) but good! ps Expect some more music recommendation to come in soon!

Sorry I haven't replied in awhile! School is so busy, ah! I seen White Lung play twice once at Sled Island and once in Vancouver opening for Shonen Knife. It was pretty rad, though I do hope they come back here soon, headling and playing a smaller venue (they were opening for No Age and RZA in a big hall with a high stage which kinda ruins some fun). I'm assuming you already know but Wild Flag are super new, the band was just announced not even a month ago! I'm so jealous you are going! Where are you seeing them, in SF or Sacramento? On top of that, Grass Widow are opening their California dates! Ahh, California gets the best things, haha. I finally got a chance to listen to your recommendations and I like them all very much! Especially, Mayyors and Shannon and the Clams. Which I played on my show today and gave you a shout out! I was going to last week but the tunes were on my computer which died and I didn't have my charger!

You're seeing the Corin Tucker Band in October! Jealous! And sadly, the tour is not stopping in Canada at all. I also can't travel to see the because of school, boo! But I am thinking of going to Seatlle on the November break at the U of C to go see Wild Flag (a band with Janet Weiss + Carrie Brownstein + Mary Timony = OMG)

That's a bummer they didn't play SF. I think starting with local bands is a great way to start this! I'll start with local (then move to eastern Canada) because that's the easiest for me since I see these bands and hear them all the time. I'll start out with the one you probably have already heard of Women, new album is super good! I really like Friendo: http://www.myspace.com/friendomusic, Puberty (2/3rds of this band moved out to Vancouver though, bummer): http://www.myspace.com/pubertysounds, Sharp Ends: http://www.myspace.com/sharpends, Azeda Booth: http://www.myspace.com/azedabooth, Grown-Ups (they're pretty fun): http://www.myspace.com/wearegrownups, Stalwart Sons: http://www.myspace.com/wearestalwartsons. I'll send some more stuff outside of Calgary (Edmonton/Lethbridge) and eastern Canadian stuff in a couple of days. I hope you enjoy some of the music Calgary has to offer! That's pretty sweet that you have two shows as well!

Hey! Long time no talk indeed! I agree that we should start a cross country radio station friendship/music recommendation thing-y too! I looked at your playlists and they're pretty awesome! Yeah, the new Grass Widow is so fing amazing. I was going to try and fly to Los Angeles too seem them at Spaceland before school but it didn't work :( Though I do have a pretty good story. My boyfriend's roommate actually got to hang out for a couple of days with Grass Widow! He told them how big of a fan I was (via my boyfriend) and they went "whoa!" He picked me up a tape with their first album/ep on it and a t-shirt (actually at the show in LA I was planning on going too)!

Hi, thanks for playing our music on your show, I did actually send a copy of our single to KDVS a few months ago. I'll make sure to send a copy of the full-length when its ready. One thing I'm trying to spread the word about is our efforts to release "I'm Still Free" as a 7" single using Kickstarter.com and fan support. There are different pledge levels to fit all budgets, from $10 for a copy of the 7" sent to you to the $50 gift pack. All the info can be found at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joshhaden/kickstart-the-band-spains-im-still-free-7. If you have a moment check it out, and tell a friend! Maybe say a word about it on your show? If not, that's cool too. I appreciate your support either way. Let me know if I should send another copy of the CD single. As always, more info can be found at http://www.joshhaden.com or http://www.spaintheband.com. Thanks.

That sucks, I'm always angry when bands come here and I have to miss them (esp where I live, if you miss a good band who happens to come through you might not get that chance again, grr). I finally heard the new Mika Miko, it's def slower but I like it. Still like the first album better though. Although Sex Jazz is their best song to date, IMO. I do dig the twee pop, two that esp come to mind: Black Tambourine and Tiger Trap! What twee pop bands are you into?

Thanks! You have some good taste as well! Aww, I would love to see the Vivian Girls live. I saw Abe Vigoda live last year and they were good. I haven't heard all of the new Mika Miko yet though I really want too! There is a song about eating a Turkey Sandwich on it!
