im a huge fan. all of their records are a natural evolution of post-hardcore but ymmv for which is best. their self-titled (specifically the original master, not the remaster on spotify and stuff now) is my favorite, and it's by far their heaviest. has elements of metalcore around there. arguably their least accessible though since it's very consciously not hooky, almost progressive at times watch out! and crisis are their most acclaimed and for good reason. watch out is sort of a combination of proper pop songwriting with their previous album's sound + some more spotlight on dallas green's beautiful cleans. crisis is much of the same but they switched drummers and it's much 'heartier' and less gritty in sound as a result. old crows/young cardinals reels back a lot on george's harsh vocals and is as a result kinda polarizing, but there are a lot of really great deepcuts on there and dallas and wade sound as good as ever. definitely a grower although it's rarely the favorite (1/2)

ugh sorry for the block of text i didn't realize last.fm comments don't let you use paragraph breaks lol. anyway the Dog's Blood EP is probably the only EP of theirs that you should really be keeping your eyes out for since it's sort of a return to form from the weirder vibe from OCYC, and takes more influence from metal than a lot of their other stuff. then they broke up. and then they reunited. and we got some decent singles and Otherness came out which is sort of like a dadcore version of their old sound, lots of grunge and especially old-school heavy metal influence on the record and it's overall very solid. definitely rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with how far it strays from their old work, but they're all middle-aged dudes now - i think it's solid for what it is. either way, all of their albums are worth listening to and i highly highly highly recommend you check them out!

and just saying but this is definitely a personal take of mine, i think aof, even though they really only ever got 'big' in canada compared to the US or anywhere else in the world, are probably the most influential phc band of the 2000s. more so than underoath, early mcr, glassjaw, all them. they really did codify so many tropes that would later become commonplace in 2010s and current phc and they did them *really* well at that. most underrated rock band ever tbh

No problem, it's cool to see your passion about 'em! Last.fm really should have a higher word limit lmao I could certainly use more post-hardcore bands in my diet, so they're on the list now. Thank you for the rec!

Mothership rules, Betrayed by the Game is another one of my favorites. i need to give DBM2 another fair shot, i've kinda felt like JC's vocal performance is lackluster compared to the otherwise excellent instrumentation and his previous work with the band. Jon's vocals on there are awesome though, People You Knew is basically a Suis La Lune song and i love it
