I did. I enjoyed it but the performance didn't blow me away as I was expecting it to. I've seen them before and each time has been a really special experience, but for some reason this time I felt it was missing something? I'm not sure what however, maybe it was just me. Did you go?

It's gorgeous. Check out Tammles and Les Menestriers if you're on a French folk tip.

Got it! Thanks for that, just downloading now. Might not get a chance for a full listen tonight as I have a couple of friends over and I want to give the mix my full attention. Theres a lot I don't know on there so I'm looking forward to giving it a go. Thanks! I'll send one back some time next week. Thanks again!

I can do online mixes I'm sure! I'm pretty busy with work for the next couple of days, but when I have some time I'd love to do one. do you know Ryley Walker? I just heard him for the first time today. He reminds me a little of Bert Jansch now and again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96qBM4LL2ps

Awesome, thanks for the recommendations! I've been listening to the David Munrow and Xylouris White records today, excellent stuff. I'll be checking out the other records you mentioned soon as well. These days I find myself listening to Baroque music quite a bit and have been gravitating towards a lot of the more minimal music of the period - suites composed for single instruments etc. I'll pm you with a few tracks that have been standing out. I've also been listening to Woven Hand and am going to their show in Seattle next week so looking forward to that. That would be great to hear some new playlists from you on Mixcloud! I'm planning to throw some stuff up there soon too.

Likewise my friend and glad to hear you're well! I still have the Before The Spring playlists on regular rotation. Any records standing out to you in these days?

Sadly I won't be able to make it to the Wovenhand gig but I dreamt about it last night! Hope it's as good next week as it was then. :-) Spring well set in, time for a mix swap?

I have seen Waltz with Bashir. I'm a fan of Max Richter. By the way, I loved Little ones run in Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything. : )

It was a day I always looked forward to. They were able to beat all the logic, when I chose them over Classical and Minimalism. Against all the odds and the reality that they have moved on and changed, I still expect something mellow. I am aware that it's me who needs to be evolved. Thanks for reading my rants.

First of all, I know what you mean because the same thing happened with one of my favorites (Anathema), there new music was not as appealing as their old work. When I saw them live, I forgot about everything. But, when they played some of their old music, it was overwhelming and I can never forget that. About ASMZ, I have gone at thelenghts of buying the record (Vinyl) of their first album, even though I don't own a record player, for the day I buy it. It's not just He has left Alone, even Born Into Trouble as the Sparks Fly Upward is sublime. It's just that, you perceive and interpret music on an extremely subjective level For me ASMZ has been that band which made me fall in love with instruments in my childhood. Took me away from all the other genres of metal, grunge. Helped me evolve to cherish instrumental and classical music with no vocals. To fathom the fact that my dream of seeing them live while playing their initial stuff is almost impossible.

I agree with everything you said. However, I have spent a lot of time idealizing them. Being in India, I always dreamt of seeing them live someday as ASMZ or GY!BE and listen to them live. I can get my head around their new style of music but to lose the hope of never being able to see or hear what I always loved is quite disappointing. Also, my whole idea of listening to classical, contemporary classical, minimalism and Post-Rock is to listen to instruments which of course is uncalled information.

Wow, you find some amazing stuff! That's wonderful (And to cap it all you know I love a good atmospheric fiddle :-)) I'll be checking out the album forthwith... All fine here, just had a great destress break in Zadar, which among many other delights has its own natural drone on the seafront; you can get an idea here: http://tinyurl.com/plukdov . Spent a lot of time down there. Hope you feel better soon; so far I've managed to miss the lurgies that are doing the rounds.

And try to find "Vampires Cowboys Spacemen And Spooks. The Very Best Of Joe Meek's Instrumentals". Great 2 CDs compilation. And it contains The tornados' "Telstar" in stereo - the first time ever

Hi! "...The Shadows, Link Wray, Dick Dale, The Tornados..." I guess you would like to listen to some surf music. Try the series "Lost Legends Of Surf Guitar" (4 CDs on Sundazed) or Rhino's 4 CD "Cowabunga", or 2 CDs "the Birth Of Surf" (Ace UK) or there are hundreds other surf comps in stores and in the web. Then if you like the twang in The Shadows' style, try to find some British Instrumental compilations. there are many: "Those British Instrumentals" (5 CDs), "Great British Instrumentals – Just about as good as it gets!" (2x2 CDs), "Instro Beat - 28 British Instrumentals Of The 60's" and a loads of unofficial web-compilations.

Nope, I missed that one too [rolls eyes, where have I BEEN?] Looks brilliant, recorded within a month or two of when I saw him. Looks like tracking it down could be fun, but worth getting on the case... Thanks for the heads-up (twice in one day :-)) (PS the way I'm going if you hear of any Wovenhand live shows in the UK let me know; a definite must-see...)
