I just turned on the new album and it hit me from the first notes. I don't think you can classify it as just art-pop. This is a real musical-visual-emotional experience. VU was way ahead of their time and forever became legends. And John Cale, at the age of 80, is recording an album that pushes aside all modern pop standards to immerse the listener in a story that is 1 hour and 11 minutes long. Wow!

Mercy is an utterly unique album-- even for John Cale. It sounds a bit like I imagine muzak in the waiting room for Purgatory might sound, if such existed. Hypnagogic, cavernous, gauzy and with grooves. John Cale has once again struck fresh sonic ground at the age of 80. Remarkable.
