I'd love to hear Daniel Johnston sing this. Or Jimmy Scott if he was still around.

Beautiful song, love the piano in the intro. (It also gives me the urge to reform the U.S. education system.)

@Mink... : thanks for the head's up. i am not enough of a /fanatic/. i should have bought these CD's, on consideration, /at the time/ (i.e. years ago), and got into diggin' it, as i would have. instead, i was probably too obsessed w/ Pavement, et al., and involved in a performing band (pro musician, whatever), it's difficult to /consume/ music, for me at least, while so much focus is on the creation of it (i.e. to write songs; be engaged in song writing, regularly)

Again, this is one of few songs which evoke the viceraral "goosebumps" reaction. I absolutely love the Flaming Lips. I do not own any of their albums. I am the anti-christ for that, i confess, metaphorically speaking, in context, of course. So many tunes, ahem... i have.. and love, mostly from this album, but others are great too. (i.e. "Finally... Acid / [LSD]") (RE: as may be read in precludes, of my own commentary to the same)

the spareness of the song/production lends it a lot of space, and given the sentiment of it makes it all the more heartbreaking.
