Beschreibung
The Astroworld Festival was an annual music event founded by American rapper Travis Scott in 2018, taking its name from his third studio album released the same year. The festivals involved musical performances with Scott as the headliner. Astroworld 2021 was organized and managed by Live Nation and its affiliates.
On November 5, 2021, a fatal crowd crush occurred during the first night of the 2021 Astroworld Festival at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. The festival had already been dealing with crowd control issues on the day prior to Scott's concert, but the fatal crush occurred on the day of — and during — Scott's concert itself.
Eight people died the night of, and two more died in the hospital over the following days. The cause of death for all ten was ruled to be accidental compressive asphyxiation, with one of the ten affected by the additional influence of a toxic combination of drugs and alcohol. Twenty-five people were hospitalized. More than 300 people were treated for injuries at the festival's field hospital.
Multiple concertgoers documented the incident, posting videos and recounting their experiences on social media during and after the concert.
