The 23rd edition of Rototom Sunsplash started in extraordinary form. An excellent line up in the Showcase stage with artists performing for the first time on international stages, some trusted acts that played in previous years and other high-level confirmed performers. Freedom Sound from DJ Bruno Huart officially opened Rototom 2016.
Misty Morning, directly from Cerdeña, delivered the first international show, gifting us with an intense spectale, who we’ll surely see again soon. Sattas were the second band to step onto the stage, playing an incredible mix of quality reggae and Turkish folk music, given that they come from Istanbul. Swing A Ling sound system accompanied the ska group Bandits, from Castellón. Many people couldn’t wait and it was clear that they loved the energetic ska that they put forward.
Lion Sitte, from Madrid, came this year, supported by their new group, the Wise House Crew, to present their new EP. The quality of voice and musicianship of the group created a lot of energy and participation from the crowd. It was a pleasure to see another of the artists playing on the Showcase stage after having performed on the main stage in the past.
Dada Yute, from Brazil, attended Rototom for the second time, a wise choice for the Showcase stage. This year they played infront of his loyal fans, who had been waiting since the afternoon. His song Rototom City has been played out internationally and his live shows are growing. He’s an explosive, charistmatic and mature artist, a future promoter in the new reggae generation.
The winner of the 2012 Latin Reggae Contest came all the way from Chile to Rototom with a very interesting musical offering. The change in musical and artistic flows seems to be a new style for the producer, dummer and singer, Tianobless. Definitely one to watch in the future.
