my gripe & maybe others can agree has to do with the fact that his music is soulless & derivative asf. he is trying to (and failing) to capture a vibe from a bygone era that prides itself with authenticity and a diy ethic. trying to artificially create a vibe based solely on aesthetics is not enough. also his connections to peter thiel and reactionary corny new york transplant types (aka dimes square) makes him all the more annoying. his music isn't the worst thing in the world, but it lacks anything worth a damn. i think that's why people are just not really into it. maybe he appeals to zoomers more bc they just don't have the reference point & relative memory to think about underground dance scenes from the late 90s to early 00s, but why even listen to him when you can listen to a wealth of music that inspired him and are so much better? idk just some thoughts
