‘More Syd Barrett than Sid Vicious’ The Quietus, Jan 2013

Viv Albertine releases a double vinyl version of her comeback album ‘The Vermilion Border’, boasting eight extra tracks, in March 2013 through Cadiz Music. Recorded after twenty-five years away from music, the album features a different bassist on every track, from Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) and Jim Barr (Portishead) to Jack Bruce (Cream), Jenny Lee Lindberg (Warpaint) and more. Long-time associate Mick Jones plays on ‘Confessions of a MILF’.

Viv’s influential and original band, The Slits, are cited as an inspiration for acts as diverse as The Beastie Boys, Tricky and Massive Attack as well as a current crop of musicians including Warpaint and The Vivian Girls. Before The Slits, Viv was in legendary band, The Flowers of Romance, with Sid Vicious.

The Viv Albertine story now encompasses Art, Film, and Writing. She has collaborated with Turner Prize nominated artists, Fiona Banner and Liam Gillick; has the lead role in the forthcoming Joanna Hogg movie, to be released mid-2013; and is writing her memoirs, 'Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys', to be published by Faber and Faber in 2014.

Viv Albertine is an important and unique voice in British culture, who deserves to be celebrated. The intimate truths of 'The Vermilion Border' will find no better Newcastle home than the intimate settings of Morden Tower.
