Description
Not just Slipknot's debut live appearance in the UK but their first headline show too and also the first stop on the World Domination Tour - their first headline world tour.
It's fair to say this was massive not just for the band but also for the UK fans. Straight off the back of the release of their self-titled debut album Slipknot were the next biggest thing in December 1999, if they we're already it. Nobody had seen or heard anything like it, what a sound, what chaos.
The chance to see them live in their only scheduled UK date in 1999 was top of a lot of peoples list so it came as no surprise that the show sold out in a matter of a few hours. People would give their left arm to see this show, quite literally.
There was no support act - there didn't need to be the buzz of seeing Slipknot and experiencing that energy and sound that we'd heard on their album and seen in magazine or tv snippets of their US live shows was more than enough to make the build up to them opening moments send butterflies raging through your stomach.
The question is - Did they deliver?
Yes, yes they did and by jolly did they deliver. A story that only many will have to share is the memory of one of the greatest nights in Astoria and Slipknot history. The full album, back to back from start to finish - nothing more, nothing less expect their astonishing live stage show and props thrown into the mix.
From the opening moments of [SIC} to the final notes of Scissors it was just one big relentless melee of ferocious energy. What a night.
