Unearth
After an awe-inspiring 15 years of blazing trails and dominating stages, Unearth is nowinstitutionalized as a relentless force in heavy metal, standing the test of time withconsistently triumphant creative output, tireless road warrior resilience, Blue Collar styleworkmanship and a resolute determination to deliver the goods.

Like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Testament and Anthrax before them, Unearth emerged as partof a burgeoning revolution in heavy music but continued to maintain their relevance andmastery of their craft. They’ve resisted and prevailed against changing trends, subculturalfashions and the way music is obtained and distributed with their credibility, integrity andunique persona intact.

The men of Unearth – longtime members Trevor Phipps (vocals), Buz McGrath and Ken Susi(guitars) – are proven “lifers.” In just four short years, drummer Nick Pierce has proven hiscommitment as well. They have put the furtherance of uncompromising heavy music at theforefront of their career goals. Unearth perseveres, conquers and continues to achieve.

Harnessing the punishing groove of Pantera, the melodic majesty of the New Wave Of SwedishDeath Metal, the fist-pumping anthemic power of traditional metal and the gritty realness ofearly ‘90s Metalcore and Noisecore, Unearth offers a unique take on what was already athrilling recipe. The Massachusetts based quintet stood tall beside their peers in the so-calledNew Wave of American Heavy Metal (a category that includes their friends andcontemporaries in Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall and All That Remains) evenas they refined themselves into a timeless outfit independent of metal subgenres.

The astounding quality of Unearth’s music has never wavered and only continues to shinethrough the overly crowded landscape, like a beacon to their fans. The early rumblings ofUnearth’s debut full-length, The Stings of Conscience (2011), as well as the EPs thatbookended that release, were followed by albums that became classic, defining landmarks inthe past decade of underground metal.

The Oncoming Storm (2004), a devastating benchmark many of this generation still discusswith the same devotional awe as albums by The Big 4; III: In the Eyes of Fire (2006), whichcracked the Billboard Top 40 with 22,000 in sales during its first week; The March (2008), aconceptually driven opus awarded a 4 “K” review in Kerrang!; and the enduringly awesomeEuropean Release Date: November 3rd, 2014!latest chapter that was Darkness in the Light (2011), which broke into the Billboard’s HardRock Top 10 and was hailed by the international press, all comprise a pristine metalliccatalog.

Unearth have made most of their albums with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz(August Burns Red, Underoath, A Day To Remember) and worked with the legendary TerryDate (Pantera, Deftones, Soundgarden) as well as heavy hitter Mark Lewis (Whitechapel,DevilDriver). Ken Susi is an accomplished producer/mixer in his own right, having worked withThe Contortionist and Seemless (among others) and on Unearth records, as well.

With over 500,000 in worldwide album sales, Unearth’s continued staying power has alsohinged on their highly interactive and toweringly heavy live performances. Over the course ofa relentlessly impressive career, Unearth have played amphitheaters, sheds, theaters, hallsand clubs with a diverse group of bands in the metal, hardcore and heavy rock elite. They’ve traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, South America, Europe, Russia,China, Scandinavia and all over Asia. Prong
Wie kaum eine andere Metal-Band der Gegenwart stehen Prong für Bodenständigkeit, Durchhaltevermögen und enge Fan-Verbundenheit. „Schon zu Beginn unserer Karriere haben wir fast alles selbst gemacht“, blickt Gitarrist, Sänger und Bandgründer Tommy auf die intensive und überaus arbeitsreiche Frühphase in den 1980ern zurück. „Wir schrieben nicht nur Songs und nahmen Alben auf, sondern managten uns selbst, organisierten das Merchandise, schickten Demos zu den Clubs und buchten die Vans. Anschließend gab es zwar ein paar Jahre, in denen Plattenfirmen und Agenturen involviert waren und uns unter die Arme griffen. Aber heute ist die Situation wieder so wie am Anfang, wir kümmern uns um alles selbst, der Kreis hat sich geschlossen.“ Jüngster Coup dieses großen Engagements: Am 29. November 2019 erscheint über Steamhammer/SPV eine neue Prong-EP auf Digi-CD und 12“-Vinyl, mit zwei topaktuellen Studionummern und drei Live-Tracks. Titel der EP: Age Of Defiance. Als erster Vorbote dieser hörenswerten Veröffentlichung kommt bereits am 25. Oktober 2019 die Digitalsingle ‚End Of Sanity‘.

Mit Age Of Defiance überbrücken Prong gezielt die für ihre treue Anhängerschaft nur schwer auszuhaltende Übergangsphase zwischen zwei regulären Alben. Seit Veröffentlichung der 2017er Scheibe Zero Days tourt die Gruppe unermüdlich durch die Welt, somit wäre vermutlich erst ab Ende 2020 mit einem Nachfolge-Album zu rechnen. Victor: „Damit unsere Fans nicht so lange auf neue Songs warten müssen, schieben wir diese EP ein. Nach so vielen Longplayern möchte ich diesmal einen kleinen Zwischenschritt einlegen, einerseits weil es die beiden Studionummern der EP absolut verdienen, andererseits weil man die Energie natürlich besonders hochhalten kann, wenn man an nur zwei Stücken arbeitet. Ich denke, dass man die große Spielfreude der Band in jedem Ton spürt.“

Eröffnet wird die neue 5-Track-EP mit dem Titelsong ‚Age Of Defiance‘, den Victor als „eher ungewöhnlich für Prong“ beschreibt. „Die Nummer ist absolut kraftvoll, mit tollem Groove, eingängigem Refrain, alles sehr frisch und modern.“ Bei der zweiten Studionummer ‚End Of Sanity` handelt es sich dagegen nach Angaben des Prong-Machers um einen „für uns typischen Thrash/Hardcore/Crossover-Song, den ich gezielt für die Amerikatournee mit Agnostic Front geschrieben habe. Wer Prong mag, wird diese Nummer lieben.“ Abgerundet wird Age Of Defiance mit drei Live-Tracks, die Victor & Co. auf ihrer großen Headlining-Tour im April 2015 im Berliner ‚Huxleys Neue Welt‘ aufgezeichnet haben: ‚Rude Awakening‘ vom gleichnamigen 1996er Opus, plus ‚Another Worldly Device‘ und ‚Cut Rate` vom 1994 Major-Album Cleansing. Insgesamt fünf Songs also, die einen gekonnten Bogen zwischen Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft schlagen.

Produziert wurde die aktuelle Scheibe von Tommy Victor und Chris Collier (Korn, Lynch Mob, Ultraphonix), einem ausgewiesenen Studiofachmann mit dem richtigen Gehör für perfekte Prong-Dynamik. Collier hat Age Of Defiance auch gemischt und gemastert. „Chris ist ein wunderbarer Toningenieur, der meine Ideen sofort versteht und dann perfekt umsetzt“, lobt Victor seinen Produktionspartner und fügt hinzu: „Wir arbeiten schon seit Jahren zusammen, mit Chris sind auch Ruining Lives (2014), Songs From The Black Hole (2015), X-No Absolutes (2016) und Zero Days (2017) entstanden.“

Man spürt, dass Tommy Victor mit der aktuellen Situation in Prong, zu der auch Bassist Jason Christopher und Schlagzeuger Aaron Rossi gehören, außerordentlich zufrieden ist. „Aaron ist ein echter Powerhouse-Drummer und gibt dieser Band ihr rhythmisches Fundament“, schwärmt Victor. „Er war schon 2007 auf Power Of The Damager zu hören und ist im vergangenen Jahr zu uns zurückgekehrt. Aaron wiederum ist bereits seit acht Jahren bei uns und auf der Bühne ein großartiger Performer. Neben dem leider verstorbenen Paul Raven ist er der beste Bassist, mit dem ich jemals gespielt habe.“ Also alles im Lot bei Prong? „Absolut“, strahlt Tommy Victor, „diese Band ist mehr denn je wichtiger Bestandteil meines spirituellen Lebens. Ich leite sie nicht aus Gründen von Ruhm oder Ehre, sondern aus Dankbarkeit und Demut, dass Gott mir dieses Geschenk gemacht hat.“
