Description
The 23rd Annual Texas Crawfish & Music Festival, one of the most anticipated festivals in the greater Houston area, is gearing up to bring back the best live entertainment, Southern Louisiana Crawfish & Cajun cuisine, along with carnival rides, midway games and unique “mom-and pop” style vendor booths to Historic Old Town Spring for two weekends of family fun April 17-19 & 24-26, 2009.
The signature event is the largest crawfish festival in the South and continues to showcase top local, regional and national entertainment on three stages from top local, regional and national country, rock and zydeco acts.
This year’s festival is doing more than providing Houstonians two weekends of great food, a festive atmosphere, great shopping and top entertainment; the Texas Crawfish & Music Festival is giving back to those directly affected by the damages caused by Hurricane Ike. The 2009 festival will dedicate a portion of ticket sales on Saturday, April 18, to Hurricane Ike rebuilding efforts. Specifically, the festival, working in conjunction with Texas singer-songwriter and native son Hayes Carll, a long time fixture at the Texas Crawfish & Music festival, will donate funds raised to the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber Of Commerce Economic Development Fund, a non-profit organization working to rebuild youth baseball facilities in Bolivar.
“ The Texas Crawfish & Music Festival helped put small businesses and the community of Old Town Spring on the tourism map,” said festival producer Seth Sanders. “Many small business owners, and those who depend on small businesses to make a living such as musicians, artists and the local workforce, were crippled after Hurricane Ike.”
Sanders continued, “Hayes Carll asked us if we could help contribute to the rebuilding efforts and anything our community can do to support the redevelopment of small businesses is something we felt that we needed to step up and do. This allows the festival, the community of Old Town Spring and Houstonians the opportunity to really make a difference.”
Hayes Carll, along with the Texas Crawfish & Music Festival, was recognized for their contributions to Hurricane Ike rebuilding and relief efforts during SXSW events on Wednesday, March 18, by the Texas Music Office.
“ It means the world to me that Old Town Spring and the crawfish festival, which has supported my music and career, as well as so many local artists for years, are willing to contribute to rebuilding efforts that are close to my heart. At the end of the day, it’s really all about helping your neighbors,” said Hayes Carll.
In addition to non-stop entertainment, the 2009 festival boasts one of the area’s largest carnivals featuring a variety of rides for adults and children, midway games and activities, along with the best Southern Louisiana food, more the 50 tons of crawfish, and the spiciest fixings in the land!
The 23rd annual festival benefits the Spring Preservation League, a non-profit foundation which is dedicated to the preservation and beautification of Old Town Spring, community projects and maintains contributions to a variety of service organizations.
