HOLLOWING THOSE CAVES. Since their emergence into the small but dedicated Wellington scene in late 2016, things have been on a steady upward trajectory for the young two-piece in Earth Tongue – consisting of Gussie Larkin on guitar and Ezra Simons on drums. While quickly becoming one of New Zealand’s most exciting underground live acts, throughout 2017 Earth Tongue’s growing reputation landed them gigs with Wolfmother, Brant Bjork, Ufomammut and Monolord while also playing sets at acclaimed festivals. After having them presented already last year, we are proud to welcome back E.T. to our series!
Dwelling in the distant future past and drifting upstream, New Zealand’s Earth Tongue primarily serves Heavy Psych taking all the best bits of the 70’s Psych Rock era and place them back within the alien landscapes from where they first emerged. While Gussie presents a thick, fuzzy guitar tone serving enough volume and bass to make the audience forget that there’s only two people on stage, Ezra has a melodic and unusual way of playing, that adds to the band’s intensity and intrigue. Their different, haunting yet catchy vocal styles (dreamy soft meets harsh’n’thick) create a full, harmonized sound.
