Description
The last festival arranged by the notorious Stroke Music. The headlining band alongside Front 242 were Rational Youth, who posted this open letter a few days before the event:
To All Fans Of Rational Youth:
We are very unhappy to have to tell you that we will not be appearing at
the Stockholm Synthfestival on Saturday, as we have not received any air tickets from the promoter, or any communication whatsoever from them.
We have been trying by every means possible: telephone, fax, and email,
DAILY for the better part of the last three weeks to get information from
N*** N****** about what was happening with respect to these arrangements,
but unfortunately we have not received a response to ANY of our inquiries. We don't understand this irresponsible attitude at all.
It is now the 30th of October and we can only conclude that STROKE have,
in fact, no intention of bringing us to this festival, despite the fact
that they have been advertising our name in connection with this event for over half a year.
We are extremely disappointed and feel very sorry for all the fans of
Rational Youth who have made arrangements to go to Stockholm from all over Sweden, and beyond, to see us. We hope that they will still enjoy the other bands at this event in our absence.
As for ourselves, we are absolutely devastated that was to have been our
first concert together in years has been taken away from us. We have been
looking forward to this event all year and have been working extremely hard to put together a great show. We would have loved to have been able to
share our reunion with our great Swedish fans in the beautiful city of
Stockholm but, unfortunately, it is not to be.
We hope to be able to come to Sweden and play for our fans in the new
year, assuming that there are other promoters in the European Union
besides N*** N******.

The next time Stroke claimed to be arranging a festival (early May 1998), the entire festival was cancelled a few days before, with promises of money back to the hundreds of fans who had bought tickets in advance — very few of whom ever saw the promised money. Instead, the promoter went underground with the money and later joined an MC gang; rumour had it that he used the cash to pay off his debts. His further adventures are outside the scope of this site.
