Mike Vest has a kickass vision of psychedelic guitar sound; makes me imagine a huge overheated amplifier bursting with tremendous sonic waves in the shape of infernal smokescreen or some kinda green & pungent cemetery fog, haha. I also dig his general manner of handling the jams, all those signature manoeuvres from droney opiate laziness to occasional predatory outbursts of face-melting acid-spewages. This particular band also grabs the attention with super delicious bass-lines, deep and resonant, slightly "doomy" yet generally laid-back, the manner of application makes me think of dub more than anything else. Another positive feature here: successful balance between "jamminess" and catchiness. Extensive stretches of solo-guitar-explorations are certainly on the menu, but it never gets too abstract & above-mentioned bass-lines provide a steady platform to hold on to. Overall, it's Mike Vest & Co, so the punchline is: to hell with "flower power", all hail "Skullflower power"!
