Gli Elvenking sono un gruppo musicale folk-power metal italiano nato nel 1997 a Sacile, in provincia di Pordenone. Tra i gruppi più importanti della scena metal italiana, si caratterizzano per le sonorità particolari, date dall'unione di più generi quali folk metal e power metal.
Elvenking was formed October 1997, by guitarists Aydan and Jarpen. In March 1998, the singer Damnagoras joined the band and only in the following month of September the group found a definite stability with the arrival of Zender on the drums. Right from the beginning, Elvenking set themselves the objective of finding a formula which can combine melodic metal, folk music and extreme sounds in a unique mixture. The one and only promo-cd "To Oak Woods Bestowed" that was recorded in 2000, led the band to sign directly a contract with German label AFM-Records. Meanwhile Elvenking enriched their sound with the entry of new bass player Gorlan. He first appeared in the band as a session player, but soon joined Elvenking permanently as a member at all effects.
The first official album, "HEATHENREEL" was released July 23rd 2001 and received flattering reviews all over the metal-world, becoming album of the month in many magazines and webzines. While preparing the songwriting for the 2nd album, in August 2002, singer Damnagoras left the band. With the new singer Kleid and the addition of the violin/keyboard player Elyghen, Elvenking records "WYRD", which was officially released April 19th 2004. A difficult period that followed the release of the second album, led to a drastic line-up change that saw the return of former vocalist Damnagoras and the split with Kleid and guitarist Jarpen. On the live activity side, the band has always carried on hitting the stages around Europe, also playing at festivals such as:

Strengthened by the renewed spirit within the five piece line-up, Elvenking set themselves the goal to create the best and strongest material they'd ever written.
"THE WINTER WAKE" was released on January 2006 and showed once again the main features that made Elvenking a unique band in the current metal scene: fresh and original sound that mixes enchanting melodies, heavy metal groove, catchy choruses and acoustic elements. In April 2006 the band joined JON OLIVA'S PAIN on a 2 week European Tour which saw the band in Germany, Hungary, Italy, Holland and for the final and most succesfull date in Belguim at PESTPOP festival together with Crucified Barbara, Epica, Sonata Arctica and Doro.
Immediately after the tour, Elvenking started to write new songs and entered the studios in November 2006. The drums were recorded at Gernhart Studios (GER) and all the rest at Sherpa Studios (ITA) with the supervision of Finnish producer Nino Laurenne. The tracks were then mixed at Sonic Pump Studios (FIN) once again with Nino and mastered at Finnvox by Mika Jussila - Helsinki.
“THE SCYTHE” was released September 14th 2007 and was supported from the beginning by the video of the song “The Divided Heart” which quickly re-ached 350.000 views on YouTube and entered many metal channel’s rotations including MTV Sweden. With “The Scythe” Elvenking opened a very interesting new chapter in their history, following a darker approach and delivering a perfect mixture between SKYCLAD, BLIND GUARDIAN and IN FLAMES. Their previous recipe for success continues but with some modern elements, and though you’ll find them a little heavier and a lot darker than before, you’ll still be able to see the mystical heart and the superb melody that gave birth to the original mixture of folk and power. Poetic, powerful, and centred on “Death” as the main character this is the bands’ very first concept/theme based album and it is well combined with a real eye catching cover artwork from artist Gyula Havancsack.
So now, after the very successful release of “The Scythe” in September 2007 the time was right to think about a new interesting project: an acoustic album! The band created new sound landscapes, like a journey through time and space. Their folk roots this time not only shine through, they are displayed in the foreground like never before. It..s pure delight in playing and a special atmosphere that only few are able to create, what makes “Two Tragedy Po-ets (…and a caravan of weird figures)” a pleasure to listen to. Also ELVENKING have found a great mixture on this album, that will amaze every fan of their previous works, be it the last, more dark “The Scythe” or the hailed debut “Heathenreel”. “Two Tragedy Poets…” includes new versions of fan favourites like “The Wanderer”, “The Winter Wake” and “The Perpetual Knot” (bonus track) but the band has also composed 10 brand new songs in a pure acoustic but yet strong garment! Add to this the highly melodic cover version of the 80..s pop hit “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” and it becomes obvious that ELVENKING have delivered much more than just an acoustic intermezzo between two studio albums. In fact this album could be a classic in the near future. “Two Tragedy Poets…” will be worth listening for everyone who is into Folk Hard Rock/Metal and medieval music.
With the timeless compositions on this album it is hard to imagine that the band has already reached the peak of their success. Expect a new studio album of ELVENKING for 2010 already - the journey has just begun…
