27 Pieces is a great gesture-- an attempt to bring new music to a wide audience. Instead of a conventional encores album filled with canonical showpieces, H. Hahn commissioned about 25 LIVING composers. Many of them are seldom heard in concert halls (e.g. Elliott Sharp, Somei Satoh). For those interested in new music, she also interviewed the composers she commissioned for her youtube channel. I really admire her efforts to keep contemporary music alive along with the revered classics.
