I've always liked to interpret their use of "naked" as a synonym for vulnerable since a lot of their songs are focused around heartbreak and emotional distress. To me, the eyes on debut album's cover art (the blue painting) certainly look vulnerable, as if they are lost or about to cry. But that's just my artistic spin on the meaning behind their name! I've heard elsewhere that Naked Eyes just happened to be the first think that popped in Pete's head when thinking up a band name and there's no official super-deep meaning behind their name.

Hate to reply to my own reply, but I totally missed that they released a new album a couple years ago. Can't believe I missed that. And it's pretty good. Just getting around to listening to more of their not top hits, and this whole band was just much more amazing than I ever thought!

And ABC was a clone of Roxy Music and so on...Naked Eyes had much better synth than ABC but I agree that Lexicon of Love is better than anything Naked Eyes ever made.
