You could say Tyler Pope leaving the band for LCD Soundsystem in 2010 was a pretty big turning point in their creative direction. Post "As If" I feel like the band has been more keen on embracing melody while slowly stripping out the more "punk" aspects of their early work. I still adore most of the recent releases - Shake The Shudder is a damn strong album - but you're correct about that original !!! essence being lost or at least watered down in recent years. Still love them to bits as well, i've got a "Must Be The Moon" tattoo to prove it 🌜🌚🌛

Saw them live last night in Skopje and it was amazing! Sounded even better than the records. Had a really great time and highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance!

The biggest problem I have with them is they don't look and sound live as I imagine them sounding from listening to a record. It's okay they are a bit nerdy looking and flamboyant live, but that has never been the vibe I would get from the albums. Saw them live twice already, and it's always the same case - that is not the band I imagine them to be.

I am not talking about how they sound (they sound great) and which songs they play. I thought of them to be much cooler based on the music, and live they are a bit too fun and swaggerless. I like fun, don't get me wrong, but I simply did not imagine them to be a fun band, but more of a band with swag and this dark coolness.

In their live shows i can't get the energy i got from Myth Takes, at least from the videos i watched, but yeah they may be having toooo much fun with it

Lord knows I'm one of their biggest fans (already seen them 25 or 26 times live so far since 2004) so it hurts me a very big deal to confess that I'm not really impressed or excited with "Shake The Shudder" so far. It might grow on me, like "Stranger Weather" eventually did, but it didn't make me wanna tear off my clothes and dance naked like the other albums did. And that's a bad sign. Stand out tracks are, in my opinion, "Dancing Is The Best Revenge" (for !!!'s trademark guitar bridge popping up towards the end of the track), "What r u up 2Day?" and "Imaginary Interviews".

I became a fan and started listening when Thr!!!er came out. I saw them three times while they were promoting that album and those were some of the best shows I ever saw in my life. Unfortunately the albums after that didn't have the same energy and the live shows reflected that.
